J.J. SPAUN: Bogey-free anywhere is really nice, to good way to start the week off.
Q. Looked like you were in control of the golf ball, too. Had a couple other looks to even take it a little bit deeper. How comfortable did you feel start to finish?
J.J. SPAUN: Yeah, very well. I kind of kept the ball in front of me and just limited mistakes and got up-and-down when I needed to, made some good putts, and just overall had a pretty nice day.
Q. We were kind of surprised when we got here how challenging it was playing for the guys out early today. How did you think this golf course was going to evolve by the time you got to your tee time this afternoon?
J.J. SPAUN: I don't know what was going on this morning. I was looking at scores as I was getting ready to come out here, and there wasn't a lot of low numbers, and a lot of people over par. It was just kind of one of those days where you just kind of take what the course gives you. Fortunately, not making a lot of mistakes and playing relatively stress-free golf kind of pushed me over the edge to playing really well.
Q. What do you try to learn when you have a late tee time versus sticking to the game plan? Is it kind of a balancing act of how much you're paying attention to what's happened already before you got to the golf course versus putting your head down and sticking to it?
J.J. SPAUN: Yeah, you want to see how the course is playing, what the conditions are like. You can see how receptive the greens are. Get a good idea for the par-3s, how they're playing. That's what I like to look at. Obviously it's a completely different golf course than it was this morning. I think maybe the heat and kind of a favorable wind direction for some of the longer holes, I guess you could say, is kind of the difference.
Q. Smooth 66, you get the birdies out of it. Have you ever played with someone who had three eagles in a round? It's never happened here.
J.J. SPAUN: No, actually I haven't. That was really impressive. He finished off nicely there after an unfortunate hole on 8, so I was happy to see that for him.
