Quick Quotes

Q. How tough was it out there?

LUCAS GLOVER: It was tough. Yeah, it was tough. It's pretty razor thin around here anyway and then you add in 25, 30 miles an hour with some gusts, it shrinks things even more. I did a good job where I was missing for the majority of the day, and there was a couple holes where you just can't miss, like 17, for instance.

But I hit a couple bad shots and got penalized the maximum I could have gotten penalized.

Q. What's the hardest thing about a day like today? Is it trying to figure out how far the ball is going to go, or is it just being defensive?

LUCAS GLOVER: I think the hardest thing is kind of picking your spots. You catch a downwind par-5 or something, All right, I can go get this one. Or, conversely, you catch 4, which is a lot of times a birdie hole, you catch that one into the wind like today you're like, All right, I've got to kind of be careful here, or more so than usual.

Then bad things happen, and they're going to happen to everybody. All right, that happens. Instead, if it was perfectly calm and you make two doubles in the last four holes, I'd be spitting mad, but it just happened.

Q. Do you like playing in these kind of conditions?

LUCAS GLOVER: I do. I do. It makes good shots good shots. It makes good shots really good shots. It also can get to people sometimes. Experience tells you that if you don't let it get to you, you've got a better chance of surviving, which is kind of my mindset when it's like this.

Q. Did you get spitting mad at all today? Maybe on 17?

LUCAS GLOVER: No. I hit a nice shot. I hit a nice shot. 135 to the top, can't land it on top. I hit the club that should have gone 130 into the slope, and it didn't get there. It almost got knocked down, the wind was so strong, which happens when it's that windy. I was in between clubs and I couldn't hit the other one. The other one is in the back water, no question.

Q. I know you probably want a few back, but looking at the scoring I would imagine you're pretty thrilled with 1-under.

LUCAS GLOVER: Yeah, if you would have told me this morning when I got up I shot 1-under today I'd have taken it and not played, for sure. For sure.

Really, I played nice. A couple bad breaks and a couple bad shots, but it's going to happen when it's like this.

Q. Was there one shot you hit today -- you love to create shots. Was there one that stands out to you?

LUCAS GLOVER: Probably the wedge shot on 6. Left-to-right wind, left pin, use the slope if you can, and just a nice flighted draw wedge, which I'd been working on. Kind of my bread and butter for a long time. I hadn't been hitting them that well and I've been working on it, so I was pretty happy with that, because it's something I've been working on.

Q. You're playing with Will Zalatoris and he's tied for the lead and loses six shots in two holes. How do you not look over there and see that?

LUCAS GLOVER: I've been there, for starters, or I've been that guy that's doing it. You don't say anything. You just stay in your little bubble and leave him alone and shake his hand and tell him to shake it off when you're done.

Yeah, I've been that guy. There's nothing you can do, nothing you can say. You just go about your business.

Q. Pretty easy for that to happen, what happened to him?

LUCAS GLOVER: Yeah, a day like today? Absolutely. You've got balls blowing all over the place, putts getting blown by the wind, balls getting knocked down, balls getting stood up. When it's gusty like this, there's some luck involved even when you hit good shots.

Q. Is there a round that you pulled on today? I'm sure you've played well in the wind before. Is there one round you pulled on knowing you've done this before?

LUCAS GLOVER: No, not really. It was more of a kind of know how to play this course when it's like this. I feel like it was more like this in May, even though it was kind of Bermuda and firm and fast. You have to get it in the fairway here first. Even if it's laying back, even if it's not being aggressive, and then you can kind of go from there.

When it's like this, I can't be playing out of the rough. I don't hit it far enough to be playing out of the rough anymore.

Like 12, I laid back. Par-5s I couldn't get to. I wasn't swinging for the fences off the tee. I knew I was going to have to lay up, so why try to bang one way up there anyway. I was just trying to manage it and get in the fairway and go from there.
