Q. How hard was it to be patient out there?
XANDER SCHAUFFELE: Yeah, it was hard, for sure. Definitely had some weird things kind of happen there. But all in all, 3-under today was a good score.
Q. How much did you go on your past experience? You and I talked several times this week about how well you've played here, how close you've come.
XANDER SCHAUFFELE: Yeah, that's as good as I could do. It would have been nice to hit the correct little section there on 17. Greens are a little bit softer than years past. I think if you kind of hit the correct shot there, you can have a decent look. Still intimidating and scary. Just a lot of patience. I was over par for a majority of the round or a good chunk of the round, I should say. Just really stayed patient. The back nine is intimidating, but with this wind direction, you can kind of get after it a little bit more than normal, I'd say.
Q. On 17 did the ball maybe get knocked down, didn't go as far as you want it to?
XANDER SCHAUFFELE: Yeah, for sure. I teed the sand wedge up a little bit high, not allowing for as much compression as if I was hitting it off the ground. Yeah, I definitely felt like I hit enough to sort of get there, but it kind of got knocked down and I probably didn't get as much ball speed or pop on it as I wanted.
Q. How pleased are you with the battle that you put in today and to post the score you did?
XANDER SCHAUFFELE: Yeah, for sure. I just kept telling -- it would have been a shame to have two events in a row where I shoot over par on the weekend. Obviously last week played really hard, and this weekend when you're in those later groups, it's playing a little bit harder. It's a little crispier. The wind is up. But you kind of know what you need to do to earn it around this property, and just happy to have stuck in it.
Q. What's the biggest takeaway as you go forward the next month towards the Masters?
XANDER SCHAUFFELE: Yeah, a lot of good things. I'd say my approach was really good through the first couple rounds. I'd say it was pretty solid this week. Didn't miss a fairway. Would like to clean the putter up just a little bit. I feel like I'm missing some of those inside five- to ten- foot range. Other than that, I've got time.
