Quick Quotes

Q. That ace, what club did you hit? What was your plan for the shot and what was the emotion like?

EMILIANO GRILLO: Yeah, the plan was to make it, obviously. You always dream of making a hole-in-one there, so every time that you step in there, you're trying to make it. It was a good number. My first thought was hit a 9-iron and then we thought the wind was a little in, but we went with just a right-to-left wind, so it was a perfect pitching wedge.

Q. Do you adjust a couple yards for adrenaline on that hole?

EMILIANO GRILLO: I mean, yes and no. I usually actually -- most of the time with adrenaline I actually hit it shorter, which is kind of weird. I wish it was the other way. Golf would be easier when you have a little extra, when you're hitting shots out there.

No, obviously you get a little bit more nervous on that 16, but again, you're just trying to do your strategy and just stick to it.

Q. What's that sensation like, it goes in, you're happy and the crowd is all going nuts?

EMILIANO GRILLO: Yeah, it was a little delay there because I think they didn't understand that a ball went in actually because -- obviously I didn't see the replay yet, but it looked like it went straight into the hole.

Yeah, I mean, it was loud. It was very loud. It was a lot of emotions. I didn't know what to do. I didn't know what to do. There was a lot going on. I just loved watching the beer go on to the green. That's what I enjoyed.

Q. Is it like being a soccer player --

EMILIANO GRILLO: Obviously, yeah. We don't get many stadiums like that all throughout the year. There's a few holes that -- they're not 360, but there's a lot of people in there. But this is definitely special.

Q. What did it mean to get that up-and-down on the last hole to put yourself in good position?

EMILIANO GRILLO: Yeah, bad shot from the fairway. Hopefully it'll be enough. I'm glad I made that hole-in-one, otherwise I would be packing everything right now and probably going home.

Yeah, I've still got to wait and see how everybody else plays. Hopefully it will be enough.

Q. From an architectural standpoint, how difficult is hole 16 actually and how much do the fans add to the pressure?

EMILIANO GRILLO: Yeah, the hole is not very long. I think you hit 8-iron at the most, back tee, back pin. It's the situation that you're in, a lot of people, people yelling in your backswing, they want you to miss the green. There's a lot of betting going on.

But when the pin is long or short left, it's not an easy hole, especially if the pin is long. But that actually -- the pin from today, it's actually kind of tricky, pitching downhill, and luckily it hit the hole.

Q. I think the last time you made worse than par on 16 was 2018 --

EMILIANO GRILLO: Don't say that.

Q. How much does the experience really help you like with your mindset?

EMILIANO GRILLO: Yeah, I always think that if it's not a perfect club, then just look at the middle of the green, try to make a 2 from there, and if not, 3 is a great score. Par is always a good score. You're always trying to play your smartest and trying to give yourself an opportunity. That's all we're looking for.

Q. When you struck that tee shot on 16, was the feeling good immediately, and can you take us through --

EMILIANO GRILLO: It went straight in the hole, so it looked great. Yeah, it was a good number. I needed to hit it good, and I did it. I'm going to say that it started a little right of where I was looking at. Obviously you're trying to hit it close, but you're trying to -- like I just said, give yourself an opportunity.

It started a little right, hit the wind, and you know what happened.

Q. I saw you throw a ball into the stands. Was that the ball you made the hole-in-one on or was that a different ball?

EMILIANO GRILLO: Maybe.
