Quick Quotes

Q. Looking at the numbers I only walked the back nine with you, I was not there for the front. What happened between those two?

ANDREW PUTNAM: Well that's good you weren't there because it was pretty ugly that first nine. You know, it was a really bad start, a 3-putt, kind of a stupid mistake and then kind of got a bad break, ball got kind of buried up in a lip. So it can happen out here.

And kind of kept it in play and started hitting some good shots and the putter started working pretty good on that front side.

Q. 125 feet of putts, including only seven feet on those two par-3s, you almost jarred it on both.

ANDREW PUTNAM: Yeah, hit a couple really good shots. Yeah, I look it obviously got really hot there for awhile, I don't know, I had five or six birdies in a row and so that got me back in the tournament.

Q. A lot of the guys are talking about patience around here, patience really important, this kind of stay with it, it's a steady pace out here, it's a little slow, so you got to stay with it. Was that the key today, especially after the rough start?

ANDREW PUTNAM: Yeah, I don't know, I was kind of spacing out a little toward the end. On the course for so long you're not used to having to have that focus that long. So, I mean, started rolling some in, maybe I just need to not focus on my score as much because that front nine was rough.

But, yeah, I'm just, the ams are great and I had a good time with them, so it's a beautiful place to spend six hours, so it was all right.

Q. You got momentum, the putter's working you're in a great spot, should be a great Sunday.

ANDREW PUTNAM: Thanks.

Q. You talk a little bit about the seeking your second win, first since 2018 just what you think it will take tomorrow?

ANDREW PUTNAM: Obviously got to be on my game. There's a lot birdies out here. Got to get off to a good start. Some those first few holes are get able and it's a place I've always felt pretty comfortable at I played here a bunch, I played a lot of pro-ams outside of the PGA TOUR events here and love, I love really fast, slopey greens and so I feel like I can visualize the balls going in really well and the putter's been working pretty good.

So as long as I can -- ball striking hasn't felt amazing but it's been good enough and hopefully if I can clean that up a little bit I have a good chance.

Q. What would it mean to you to win again?

ANDREW PUTNAM: Yeah, it would be incredible. I mean, it's been an interesting start of the year for me with just health wise, we all got COVID and I basically didn't practice for a month, three weeks and so I had pretty low expectations coming out to start the year, it's been a lot better than I expected and obviously to win at Pebble Beach would be incredible. This is a special place. This is one of, probably the favorite place for me and my wife to spend time.

Q. And what was the biggest difference between that front nine and the back nine?

ANDREW PUTNAM: Yeah, I mean I started hitting some good shots and the putter obviously started working and there's some gettable holes. I hit a really great iron shot on No. 5, that was kind of a pivotal moment, birdied that hole. Obviously birdied 6 and 7. Snuck one in there on 8. So a couple key shots that really I pulled off and on the front nine on my back nine front nine I didn't quite obviously have it to start with.

Q. What iron did you hit on No. 5?

ANDREW PUTNAM: I hit a 5-iron in there. That's a tough shot.

Q. Then thoughts on tomorrow's final round, same approach as today or a little bit different, what will you do?

ANDREW PUTNAM: Yeah, same thing. Just try to keep getting myself in the right spots, having some uphill birdie putts out here, that's the key around here. But if the weather stays like this I feel like there will be a lot of birdies made.
