Quick Quotes

Q. Another solid day. Even par. Got that made cut, 19th point. Just how does it feel to get another step closer?

JACKSON KOIVUN: Yeah, it feels great. The course is playing a little easier than yesterday, but a little stressful on the back nine, kind of scrapped it around but was able to hang in there and put up a respectable number and get that 19th point feels good.

Q. Pounded a drive on 18. Another aggressive shot into the green. Take me through that final hole.

JACKSON KOIVUN: Yeah, I knew I was pretty close or I was pretty far in the cut line, just told myself try to hit the best drive of the day on 18. I actually slipped a little bit, but it got down there pretty far and had a nice perfect sand wedge in and could get could definitely attack that pin.

Q. How much do you think about trying to get to 20?

JACKSON KOIVUN: I try not to think about it too much, just kind of let it happen. I know good golf takes care of itself. Go out there, play good, try to put myself into a good spot for hopefully that top 10 and obviously a made cut means a lot. My goal today was trying to inch up the leaderboard as much as I could. But I don't know if even's going to really catch that goal, but at the end of the day making that cut means a lot.

Q. Where is the balance of a week like this and also being part of a team that won a national championship last year of trying to juggle both things?

JACKSON KOIVUN: Yeah, this week's definitely tough, it's one of the biggest events on the PGA TOUR, and I'm excited to be here, just like I was excited to play the national championship. Definitely some nerves, but just trying to manage that and play good golf.

Q. What inspiration do you get if any of seeing what Luke did, the possibility of two straight weeks on the PGA TOUR, two kids in college lock up their card?

JACKSON KOIVUN: Yeah, he's a good person, he's been playing really, really well and it's really cool to see someone get to that 20. Like I said earlier, I hope my time comes soon.

Q. We talked last Friday and you were saying that you felt if you were playing your best or playing well, that you could kind of hang in there and even have a very solid finish. How well are you playing?

JACKSON KOIVUN: I feel like I'm playing pretty good. Definitely some stuff I could tighten up. Yesterday I played really solid in that wind. Today I could have managed it a little better, but happy with the score and happy with how I fought.

Q. You said a couple things to tighten up. What would you like to tighten up?

JACKSON KOIVUN: Probably some approach shots, just put 'em in little better spots. Putting speed today was a little tentative, could have gotten a couple more to the hole. Definitely a few more birdies out there for me to grab.

Q. The weekend, also you talked about like you want to show you can play well on the weekend. What's the mindset going into to be able to do that and not have a stumble, like maybe at what was it Torrey and Memorial you maybe didn't play quite to your capabilities?

JACKSON KOIVUN: Yeah, just kind of realizing where I'm at, that I can be here and I can compete with these guys, and if I just keep my mindset that way, I think I can go play well this weekend.

Q. I remember Torrey you were on the cut line and the scenario of that day where there's delays and wind and everything like that, maybe didn't perform the way you wanted to, just with tough conditions, you take anything from how you managed your emotions that week into how you've done this week?

JACKSON KOIVUN: Yeah, I played well the first two rounds at Torrey, the weekend was a little subpar, which is fine. Just kind of knowing that I'm still in it, I'm still right there, just trying to keep that mindset present is definitely key for this weekend.

Q. Is this your fourth or fifth.

JACKSON KOIVUN: Fourth.

Q. Do you feel like you're learning quickly out here, because you're getting thrown into the fire, four TOUR events.

JACKSON KOIVUN: Yeah, definitely learning a lot, there's so much to learn out here, you can learn a lot from how these guys play the game and just trying to take note of that. Where to put your golf ball, where to be aggressive, where not to be aggressive. The pins out here, they get so close to the edges and some spots you just can't make up-and-down. Just knowing that and trying to hit it to the right spot of the green to give myself a good look.

Q. In those four starts what's been the biggest surprise being alongside the best players in the world that maybe left you scratching your head a little bit?

JACKSON KOIVUN: Just how good their short games are, really. It seems like they can make up-and-down from anywhere. That's definitely something I need to work on, kind of inside a hundred yards. They all hit the ball so well, I feel like I could throw myself up in there with how they hit it, but how they manage their games, knowing exactly where they want to hit it, being smart about that and just even if they miss a shot it feels like they're having a good look to chip in or just have a kick-in par.

Q. We talked at other events maybe hadn't interacted with a ton of the TOUR players. Throughout the week this week any good interactions or people you've met?

JACKSON KOIVUN: Yeah, one of my good friends is Russell Henley. He's definitely a prime example of that. His short game is unbelievable. Just kind of taking note of how he plays his practice rounds, where he puts the golf ball, and played a couple other guys this week, and they're all just so smart about their games, their course management is really, really good. Taking note of that and trying to improve in that aspect of my game.

Q. He doesn't putt tentatively.

JACKSON KOIVUN: No, he does not, he makes a ton of putts.
