Quick Quotes

Q. Followed up a really low round yesterday with another solid round. What do you like about where your game is at?

DOUG GHIM: Yeah, I think so far this season, I've been really close. I either putt really good one day and not drive it well or hit my irons really good and not make a putt. This week I feel like I've got a good mix of everything, and I wish I would have made a couple more putts today, but at the end of the day, 18 holes to go and still have a chance. That's all I can ask for.

Q. When it's like that and you feel like it's close but maybe the results aren't there, is it just trying to stay patient? How do you manage that when you're feeling better than maybe it shows?

DOUG GHIM: Yeah, I think as a player, you kind of have to manage where that frustration is coming from, and when you identify the fact that you feel like it's close, then you have to really stay disciplined and doing the same thing. It's really easy to want to change something, and I think my team has done a great job with me in helping me be patient. Maybe tweaking just a few things here and there, but at the end of the day, I'm not that far off from where I was in Phoenix. Obviously I've made a lot of cuts this year so far, so that's always a good sign.

Obviously it's nice to be in contention, and that's where I'd rather be. It's nice to see a lot of hard work from the off-season pay off.

Q. First couple years here, missed cuts. Had a pretty solid year last year. Anything you've figured out about how to navigate this place?

DOUG GHIM: I think just getting used to putting on Bermuda. Obviously the way the course is playing right now, all that overseed is kind of drying off. It's pretty much pure Bermuda out there now. Coming from Chicago, you don't really get Bermuda a lot, and when it bakes out like that, it's not the same as where I played at Texas, so it's just a little bit of a different animal.

The courses really bake out. In college we'd play in Florida, but we would only play three days, so that fourth day is sometimes where it really gets baked out. I think even like my first time playing Bay Hill that Sunday was, like, a completely different animal to me.

I think just a little bit of experience and just getting better as a player. I think this course suits me well, and I think I've learned how to play it a little bit better, and I'm excited to be here.

Q. You talked about playing in college; talk about the college experience helping you on the TOUR right now.

DOUG GHIM: Yeah, I mean, obviously I had a lot of great teammates. One in particular seems to come to mind. Even Beau Hossler, Kramer Hickok, Gavin Hall. Even the experience of Taylor Funk with his dad being Fred and picking their brains a little bit and getting better as a player. We had players from every part of the country, so we were lucky to play a very diverse schedule. We played a lot in different parts of the country while we were in school.

It's not that I haven't been exposed to Bermuda before, but obviously it's a different animal when they set it up for a TOUR event. All that experience still got me to a point where I had a chance to compete when I got out here, and you've just got to learn out here for your first four, five years.
