Quick Quotes

Q. I know it's not the result you wanted. It was a great battle all week. Just some thoughts on how the day went for you.

JAKE KNAPP: Honestly, I think I played super solid. I mis-hit the one shot on 11 and that was kind of the only thing I'd really take back. It would have been nice to make some more putts, but the pins were more challenging today.

We had the goal of just fairways and greens and two-putt the heck out of it, birdie all the par-5s and figured that would be enough, and if I did that, I would have been tied.

Just bummed about 11. It was really the only bad swing of the day.

Q. What was the thought process there, and can you walk us through what you were sort of contemplating?

JAKE KNAPP: Yeah, it's probably one of the tougher shots of the day. Front right pin, downwind. Chipping from long isn't super easy. Could see kind of the top quarter of the ball, figured I could just kind of blast it out for the most part, and didn't hit any of them really hard enough, unfortunately.

Q. Was there ever a discussion of going back and dropping and hitting 4?

JAKE KNAPP: Not really. I just think in the moment, even now I don't take it back. It's just one of those shots you just have to end up hitting a little bit harder than I did.

Q. Once you're committed, you're invested in that shot, you obviously can't go backwards. The next one, was it very similar in you could see a little bit more of the ball?

JAKE KNAPP: Yeah, a little bit more of the ball, but underneath there, it's just like soft sand and rocks and things like that. It feels like the club gets through fine, the ball just doesn't come through with anything on it.

Q. I know it's hard to look at one hole, but when you look at everything else as a whole for the four days, the 59, is it going to take time to process the highs and lows?

JAKE KNAPP: Yeah, a little bit. The 59 the first day, those don't happen very often. So obviously that'll hold a special place in my heart. But that being said, the whole goal at the beginning of the week is always just to put yourself in position going into the weekend, and I was happy I was able to do that. Then like I said, I think today I played super solid outside of that one hole.

Q. The majority of the players who have shot sub-60 rounds on the PGA TOUR haven't necessarily gone on to win. Did you feel any pressure to cap the week off with a win after that round?

JAKE KNAPP: No. I think if I would have done it on Saturday, maybe it would have felt different. But on Thursday we were kind of joking about it, it's like, it would have been different if it was one of those where you have an eight-shot lead after the first round, but it's really the same thing as just somebody goes and shoots 65 and the next score is 70 or 71 or 69 or something like that. It really wasn't in my head at all after the first day.

Q. When you think back to this week months and years from now, what do you think will come to mind?

JAKE KNAPP: That I wish I had that shot back on 11. I think other than that, I'll think about the 59, obviously, but it's not that that shot is going to haunt me or anything like that, but for the most part I'm really happy with how I hit it and felt like I just played super solid today except for just one hole.
