Q. Fred, what's it like when you come from Augusta to another course? (Indiscernible.)
FRED COUPLES: Well, I hear this course is in phenomenal shape, so Augusta was in phenomenal shape, too. That's a good start. I'm going to pay attention to the practice round or the pro-am round. Played a few Shark Shootouts on the other course, so it's kind of got to look semi the same.
And I'm excited to be here. I won a couple times. I don't even know the names of the courses that I won at. So I have some good luck here down in Naples, and I'm going to have to start playing a lot better.
But I don't go by anything at Augusta. I played fairly well and shot college score shots like when I was 16 years old.
It's nice to be here. The weather is outstanding. I look forward to playing.
Q. What did you think of Jose Maria making the cut?
FRED COUPLES: Fantastic. You know, to shoot those scores, it's very hard. It was a rock hard -- it was hard to get a ball close, but he's got a great short game and that week you needed to have a short game.
I certainly didn't. And I don't know if he's playing here. He is? That's awesome.
But that was a great -- any of us, Langer usually plays very, very well. I don't think he played poorly. I think he missed the cut by a couple.
But it was harder than it's ever been.
Q. And anything you're particularly working on right now?
FRED COUPLES: No, no.
Q. No?
FRED COUPLES: No. I'm just working on trying to play a little bit. I'm going to have a few weeks off again. You know, I practiced hard before Augusta and I played there and I took a couple days off and I came to Florida and I've played -- took yesterday off, but I've played a little bit of golf.
You know, I was playing well, which is hard to play on a golf course like that when you never do it. Once a year. I mean, we play golf courses that are nice; sometimes they play hard. But when you just all of a sudden hop out of bed Thursday morning and go play a course like that, it's a little freakish, even though I love it and played well; I did not play horrible the first day and shot 79.
Q. Have you thought about maybe my last one will be in 2025?
FRED COUPLES: The last year I had a 78; year before that 76. But the last two years I've come back and had two really, really good other rounds.
This year I did not. But, no, I mean, it wasn't a length problem. To be honest with you, I didn't putt very well in November and I couldn't get the speed of the greens down and I actually played okay, and then this year was -- five months later was the complete opposite. I putted everything ten feet past chipped everything horribly.
So I need -- you know I try to spend time, but I think that November thing threw me off personally because I'm so used to 30 years playing that fast and they got them slow.
But that's not an excuse. I had doubles, triples. It was pretty ugly golf.
