THE MODERATOR: You finished with a 6-under 66 and made eight birdies today. What was working for you with your game?
JUSTIN LEONARD: I put the ball in play off the tee, hit a lot of good iron shots, a lot of -- I was able to keep the ball pin high a lot. And I holed a few putts.
Nothing crazy length, but I hit a lot of greens today. I think I may have only missed one or two greens. Did make a couple bogeys, but I played well on the par-5s and got off to a good start. I kind of did all the things you need to do around here.
The golf course, it's in really good shape. You can get some lies in the fairways because it's Bermudagrass where they're pretty grainy, and I seemed to handle the ones well that were into the grain, made the right adjustments, and yeah, it was just a good day.
Q. Speaking of adjustments, Golf Channel you mentioned making some adjustments with your shoulders. Could you tell me a little bit more about that?
JUSTIN LEONARD: Yeah, so yesterday my iron game and everything was pretty good. I wasn't driving it really the way I wanted to. Right at the end of the round yesterday, Shawn Segars, my caddie, noticed my shoulders were a little open. That's something we worked on on the range yesterday afternoon.
With the short irons and most of the irons it's okay, but as the ball creeps up, naturally your shoulders kind of open up a little bit. Just trying to get those squared up, and we seemed to -- I didn't hit it great on the range yesterday, but it was better, but at least I kind of knew what I needed to do. I wouldn't say I had a great range session. It kind of got better the more balls that I hit.
Just got out and -- 1 is a pretty easy tee shot. 2 is probably the hardest tee shot on the golf course, and hit a good one there, and then I'm like, okay, I got this. Yeah, it was nice to get off to a good start. But just a little tweak here and there is always kind of necessary.
Q. Looking ahead to tomorrow, any tweaks you want to make?
JUSTIN LEONARD: No, just more of the same. I'll get a little work in this afternoon and make sure I'm comfortable with where things are. Just keep playing.
Q. On the par-4s and par-5s, are you using mostly 3-woods or drivers? It seems to be a lot of 3-woods used by some of the players.
JUSTIN LEONARD: Yeah, I'm hitting a lot of drivers. I'm trying to think. I hit 3-wood on 5, and I hit a 5-wood on 8, and then I hit 3-wood on 14. But everything else I'm hitting drivers.
The golf course is not real firm. It's -- like I had a couple shots where I saw the pitch mark. If it's landing down near one of the drainage areas, those are still pretty wet.
It's not running, chasing out a lot, so I'm still hitting a good bit of drivers.
