Quick Quotes

Q. Now joined by Michael Wright, shoots 4-under 68 today. How nice was it to have that bounceback birdie on the 18th?

MICHAEL WRIGHT: Yeah, it was, it was very nice. It's, yeah, just one of those things. I mean, yeah, unfortunate to hit a loose shot, probably my loosest shots for the last two days there, and the second shot on 17. That hurt, hurt a lot, but I'm making heaps of birdies. If I can make heaps of birdies I'm happy.

That's why I play the game, making birdies. I love it. Had nine yesterday, six today. I'll be gunning for heaps more tomorrow.

Q. Talk us through what happened on the 17th hole, what yardage you had on the approach and what club you hit?

MICHAEL WRIGHT: Yeah, yeah, 182 meters. We had a little bit of an issue with Darren's tee shot and I was a little bit rattled. My emotions were running a little bit high standing over that shot.

I unfortunately got -- had a 6-iron and cut it a bit too much. I didn't think it was as bad as it ended up being, but it ended up being just terrible. I had like a stick right behind the ball that I couldn't move because it would've moved the ball.

Yeah, had to hack it out and had a couple of hoppies in there, and next thing you know, had a 6 on the card. Really good chip to get it up and down for a 6. Could have made more. Fortunately got that up and down.

Then did a good job on the last to make birdie.

Q. How pleased were you with your putting overall today and your son's reads?

MICHAEL WRIGHT: His reads are still spot on. Even said to me just coming off 18, you go the to hit it on the line that I tell you. Yeah, I didn't start them -- couple of holes that I didn't start on the correct line, and you can't make them if you're not executing on the line that we picked.

So hopefully tomorrow we'll get them on the right line. I'm confident he'll continue to make good reads.

Q. You've had really good couple days with the birdies. With Tom at 14, what's the game plan for you and your son going into tomorrow?

MICHAEL WRIGHT: Just smash as many birdies as I can. Yeah, that's all I'll be thinking. I just want to birdie every hole. Yeah, because, you know, if there are loose shots there are some loose shots. But if I'm making heaps of birdies then I'll be somewhere near the mix.

Obviously I'm -- what is he, three in front? Yeah, I got some catching to do. That's okay. The birdies are there, so if I can make the birdies and somehow keep the rough ones off the card then I'll be in with a shout.

Q. By trade are you a scoreboard watcher or is it just play the game and just...

MICHAEL WRIGHT: Mostly no, I don't watch. I don't care if I see it. I didn't know that he was 14 until you just told me just now, so that's telling me that I'm not really watching.

But, I mean, you know, coming down the stretch I don't care if I see my name close. I would like to see it out in front. That would be good. Then I suppose that somewhat dictates your strategy. If you have a five-shot lead or something you're going to play the last few holes a little bit different.

You kind of do need to have a look at the scoreboard don't really care too much if I don't see it.

Q. You touched on a little bit on this yesterday, overall for you this is your son's first week on the bag here on the Champions TOUR. Just how cool is it to have him on the bag with you?

MICHAEL WRIGHT: I'm just so glad that I'm playing well with him. It's just so much fun. Yeah, I got my other son coming over for the rest of the year so just to have both of those kids on the bag, it's a treat.
