Q. Did you learn anything from Cam's chip on No. 2?
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: Ooh, you're challenging me. Hole 2, par-5, not really. Just coming out of the rough. I had a good idea what I needed to do on my chip. His was a significantly different angle. He had to go up and over the hill, and mine was more across it.
Q. Did you like the shot? Was it going by at all?
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: May have gone by a few feet, but it was all in the green there, so I nipped it pretty good.
Q. I'm just curious, every week it seems you can move to 1 if Jon does this or -- does it matter whether you're 1A or 1B right now?
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: I mean, I don't think so. I mean, you don't really get any shots when the tournament starts. Everybody starts at even. So we're all just trying to go out there and do our best.
With that being said, I like being No. 1 more than No. 2, but it's not something that occupies many of my thoughts.
Q. On 9 today, why did you play it the way you did?
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: Where I hit my drive yesterday, I hit a really good drive, and I ended up in a spot where I just got a bad rake job and I didn't really have a shot. I feel like I got a little tired towards the end of the day today and I wasn't swinging my best.
I didn't hit many good tee shots towards the end of my round. So I knew I was hitting my wedges good, so I knew I'd get a good look if I laid up. Just put myself in a good spot there and was fortunate to make 3.
Q. How much you look at the scoreboard on a Friday?
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: Not really.
Q. You just know you were doing all right?
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: Yeah, I was doing fine. I can't -- it's Friday. It's still early in the week. I was just trying to keep plucking along and doing what I can control. Just trying to play solid golf.
Q. I think I overheard you say you're still learning the golf course. How much does that kind of experience pay off at a course like this?
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: There's a lot of nuances to this golf course, and I'm still kind of learning on the fly with it being my first time around this place. If you're hitting it really good, you can score anywhere, and you can hit the shots.
It's just those nuances kind of help when you're not really playing your best. I feel like I put myself in a few spots this week that haven't been great. But outside of that, I've played a lot of solid golf.
Q. What's an example of the nuances you picked up?
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: On 7 today, I ended up right of the green, which I didn't think it was that bad of a spot. And then I'm kind of hitting this where, if it went in the bunker, it would have been hard, and then where i was sitting kind of in the rough, it was really an awkward shot that I didn't realize, stuff I didn't pick up on. Stuff that's not really that big of a deal, but we'll see.
