Q. What words would you choose to sum up that day?
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: I thought the golf course was tougher today. I felt like the fairways I hit it in, the pins were hard to get to, and the fairways that I missed, it was kind of the gettable pins is what I felt like at times out there.
The back nine, I felt like it was hard to get it close to some of those pins. An important hole to hit the fairway, 15, the reachable par-5, I missed the fairway there. Gettable pin on 11, I missed the fairway there. In position on 13, hard pin to get to. 16 in position, can't really get it to that pin today.
So just little stuff like that where it's almost like I didn't time my good shots at the right moment, and I ended up at 1-under. Overall, I feel like my game is in a good spot.
Q. I saw the shot tracer on 8. You didn't hit it very far. Was that a tree?
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: Yes.
Q. Swing comparable how it felt today compared to yesterday?
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: Yeah, overall I felt pretty good. Like I said, little things here and there that cost me some shots.
Like I said, not hitting the fairways on the right holes. Then some of the holes where I did hit the fairway, I hit middle of fairway on 5, got a mud ball, and it cost me almost two full shots there with the silly three-putt.
Just little stuff like that that can turn your day the wrong way. I fought pretty hard today and hung in there well to be four or five back on the weekend.
Q. Put yourself in contention plenty of times this year. Has there been any common theme where you don't have the weekend that you want that you've noticed? Or is it different things every time?
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: I think I maybe only had one 36-hole lead this year, is that right? It's not like I'm leading every tournament. I feel like I've been in this position where I'm a touch on the outside looking in a lot.
Two more solid days, and I'll be right in it.
