Press Conference

Q. Davis, you guys got a really receptive golf course today with no wind, and you needed to go out there and make a lot of birdies, and you guys did that for the most part. What was your assessment in the round today that you guys put up?

DAVIS THOMPSON: Yeah, I feel like we got off to a good start. Had a hiccup on six, but I felt like having a par-5 right after that helped, and I was able to make a long putt for eagle, and that kind of got us back on track.

Yeah, your mindset is kind of changed from day-to-day, so tomorrow will be a different animal. You know, hopefully we can get off to a good start tomorrow and put some pressure on those guys.

Q. Austin, what's it like when you do make a bogey in four ball? How difficult is it to bounce back?

AUSTIN ECKROAT: Like he said, I think where it stood on the golf course early in the round and having a par-5 on the next hole, if anything, it was a motivator going forward.

It's a hard hole. We both just hit poor chips. It just happens. Yeah, I think four ball, it's hard, but I think making that eagle putt on seven was huge.

Q. Are both of you or either of you or none of you leaderboard watchers? Do you both like to look?

AUSTIN ECKROAT: I'm a looker. I like to know where I'm at. I don't know about Davis, but sometimes it can kind of help you feel how the golf course is playing. You know, sometimes YOU might put a little too much pressure on yourself and look up on the board and say, hey, it's playing hard or vice versa. I like to look.

DAVIS THOMPSON: Today I tried not to look because I knew, like, guys are going to make birdies early, so we were going to be kind of behind the 8-ball to start. I didn't want to look. I just tried to stay in my process and just go make some birdies at the start.

Tomorrow I'll probably be checking it a little bit just to see where we're at and kind of if we need to game plan or make any adjustments, we'll kind of talk about it and go from there.

Q. How aggressive were you guys yesterday in foursomes? How much room is there tomorrow to turn that up a notch to try to track down the Fitzes?

AUSTIN ECKROAT: I think we talked about it yesterday. We were both just a little off. I don't think it was a mindset issue or a strategic issue. It was just, you know, both got a little off our game. It's kind of difficult to find it in alternate shot, because you're just hitting less shots.

I think going in tomorrow very comfortable with where both our games are, just go out there and have fun.

Q. Do you like playing super aggressive and chasing guys down?

DAVIS THOMPSON: Yeah, I mean, I think we just kind of stick to our game plan kind of on the front nine and then probably just reassess after that, if we need to start firing at flags anymore, we'll do that.

I think in alternate shot a key is just to get as many looks as possible, try to hit as many greens as possible, and make some birdies and have a lot of stress-free pars. We'll try to do that tomorrow.

Q. Austin, what's the biggest motivation going into tomorrow other than the obvious?

AUSTIN ECKROAT: I mean, I think obviously trying to get another win, but I think we're both wanting to get back in the signature events. I think that would do it for both of us for the next couple. We're both on the outside on the PGA Championship. There's a lot of things to play for tomorrow.

I don't think there's going to be a motivation issue between the two of us.
