Quick Quotes

Q. Opening round 61; how do you feel about your round?

SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: Yeah, feel good. I played nice today. Had the good front nine; was able to put together a solid back nine as well.

Overall very pleased with the results of today.

Q. Two early looks. Did you have any inkling that you were going to play the next seven holes in 7-under, and did you feel like your...

SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: I don't really think about that stuff. It was nice. I hit some good shots to start the round, gave myself some looks, and was able to capitalize with a good iron shot on 3 and hit another iron shot on 4. I kept hitting fairways and greens. Hit that nice pitch into 6, good pitch into 5 as well. Was able to take advantage of the holes I needed to on the front nine, like 5 and 6 are holes you got to take advantage of, and 9 as well.

Was able to steal a few shots as well.

Q. You said you missed coming here last year. How much of that is just the appreciation of local fans? It's vice versa, they're showing appreciation to you and you to them?

SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: Yeah, it's a ton of fun for us to be able to play in front of the fans here at home. Jordan and I love playing here this week. This tournament has meant a lot to us over the years, and so it's really good to be here this week playing again.

Obviously last year I was missing for some pretty good reasons. I wasn't too sad about what was going on in my life at the time. I obviously missed being here, and excited to be back.

Q. (No microphone.)

SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: Yeah, I was never really a huge autograph kid growing up. I loved coming and sitting on the raining and watching guys. I felt like you could always watch most of the action on the range. Like I just love watching the pros hit balls.

It's just fun to come to the range and sit there for a while and watch, and it definitely brings back some good memories.

Q. (No microphone.)

SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: Whoever showed up.

Q. Over the previous three years, you won quite a bit before May; you hadn't done that this year. Not like your game hasn't been good. You've been in contention. How do you feel like your game has been and are you kind of anxious or eager to get that breakthrough win for this year?

SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: I wouldn't say anxious or eager. I got off to a good start today, and there is three more days of the tournament. I'm just focused on going home, getting some rest, and getting ready for tomorrow.

Q. (No microphone.)

SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: He does stuff like that all the time. People don't realize he is probably one of the funniest guys we have on TOUR. Just has really good comedic timing and he is the best. Si Woo is undefeated. That was not surprising. Reaction always gets a good laugh out of us.

Q. What was your best shot out there today, 9, 17, or somewhere else?

SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: That's a good question. I think the 3-wood I hit into 9 would be one of the better shots I hit today. I was kind of in between clubs and I choked up on a 3-wood and hit a really nice shot in there.

Yeah, that would probably believe the best.

Q. Were you surprised at the condition the golf course? A lot of guys have said how dry it was.

SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: Shockingly dry. The greens, too. I expected to walk onto the first green and kind of feel some sponginess. You couldn't tell that we got three, four inches of rain here yesterday. Golf course recovered nicely and hopefully rain holds off the rest of the week, and we'll see what happens.
