Quick Quotes

Q. How do you assess that round? Pretty special round. Probably a little disappointing on the last hole, but how do you feel about it?

JHONATTAN VEGAS: Yeah, it was a great round overall, right? I mean, this is the most comfortable I kind of felt all year, which is kind of nice. More than the round, kind of feeling that the game is kind of moving the right direction, where your hitting your shots, hitting your putts, and all that. Feeling great mentally.

So it was good, right? That's kind of the main thing today. I feel like everything was working well. Can always be better, but it was definitely a great round.

Q. You said it's the most comfortable you felt all year. What has made you feel uncomfortable most of the year?

JHONATTAN VEGAS: I don't know. I mean, like I said, coming back from injury is never easy, especially at 40. You know, just kind of trying to recreate a lot of the feelings I had when I was younger. It kind of felt a lot closer today. Felt like that's kind of the best I felt in a very while.

It was really exciting to feel.

Q. You came in here off four missed cuts in a row. How do you get prepared to come out and shoot a score like today?

JHONATTAN VEGAS: At the end of the day it's one day at time out here, right? You know, I mean, you can't really get too caught up on playing good or bad. Just keep doing your work and at the end of the day believe you're doing the right things.

Feel like I've been doing the right things, put in the work. We know this: If you do the right things, at some point things are going to turn the right way.

Q. You've played this event a lot of times; made a lot of cuts. What do you like about this event?

JHONATTAN VEGAS: I don't know. Just playing in Texas, my adopted home and lots of friends. A lot of people from the Texas Longhorns around here. It's always good mojo playing and Texas and always a good feeling.

Q. Did you feel the love out there today? Were they following you around?

JHONATTAN VEGAS: Like I said, it was good. It was good feeling hearing the Hook 'Em Horns around and seeing some familiar faces around, so it was fun.

Q. Does this course set up for you at all like Golf Club of Houston back home at all?

JHONATTAN VEGAS: I would say it's a course that you have to drive the ball well. I feel like I did that really well.

So it's definitely a course that suits my game, especially playing longer, making some of the holes longer, being wet. I think if I keep driving it well should be a fun week.

Q. When you're out there on the course and you see Scottie's name up on the leaderboard putting up a score, how does that incentivize you to continue to do what you did?

JHONATTAN VEGAS: Obviously you got to keep the pedal down, right? I mean, trying to chase world No. 1 is never easy. Just got to keep doing your work, and if you get to five, try to get to six, and so far.

So just got to keep putting the pedal down and trying to see what happens at the end of the day.

Q. You were on the Presidents Cup. I don't know how much you know Geoff Ogilvy, but he was announced as captain the other day. What are your thoughts on that?

JHONATTAN VEGAS: Yeah, I been here long enough so I know Geoff really well. He's a great guy, absolutely great guy. He was part of the Presidents Cup when I played in '17 and great energy, right? Really good energy.

I think he's going to continue the legacy that Ernie started here, so I'm super excited. Super excited. It's something that's still in the back of my mind, so see what happens next year.
