Quick Quotes

Q. 64. Excellent round in tough conditions out there. If we can just get some comments on your play.

DANIEL BERGER: Yeah, I mean, started off kind of slow. Made four, five pars to get the day going, and then just kind of hit a bunch really good golf shots. Didn't really make a ton of putts, but I felt like I had two or three holes where I just was tapping in for birdie or hitting a par-5 in two and two-putting, so pretty stress-free.

Then coming down the last six, seven holes in tough conditions with a lot of rain and hung in there and played well. Overall happy with my performance today.

Q. Talk a little bit about how high your confidence is right now heading into this stretch with the PGA Championship and then also defending at Colonial.

DANIEL BERGER: Yeah, there is a lot of big events coming up. Just came off a three-week stretch where I didn't play, so I wanted to get one tournament under my belt before playing the PGA Championship and then Colonial.

It's nice to get off to a good start and play well and feel like my game is in a good spot going into big weeks.

Q. Even through 5 today. You could tell conditions were going to be gruesome. The round could have gone one or two ways. How did you inject some life into it and close with such...

DANIEL BERGER: Well, I mean, I think I played the hard holes well in the toughest conditions with the rain and the wind, and that closing stretch of holes, 14, 15, 16, 17, I played well. Just hopefully couple people make some mistakes and I'll have a chance later this afternoon.

Q. Did you start peeking at the leaderboard at all the last three or four holes?

DANIEL BERGER: Yeah, I liked to know where I was at. I missed a putt on 16 for par that I feel like I probably should have made, but that's the way it goes. Overall it was a great way to finish the week.

Q. Biggest takeaways as far as what you saw with your game you can carry into next week?

DANIEL BERGER: I came back after taking three weeks off, which sometimes for me can be tough the first week. Just nice to get off a good start to a stretch of golf that's really important to me. Just feeling good about my game and just trying to hang in there and play well.
