Quick Quotes

Q. Opening round 64; what did you like about your round?

BUD CAULEY: Well, I drove it in the fairway, which is nice. It makes this place a little less stressful. Once I did that, I hit some good iron shots and was able to roll in a couple, so it was nice.

Q. Anything in particular you're doing with driver?

BUD CAULEY: No, I've driven it pretty well all year. I have a couple things I try to keep on eye on, just basic setup stuff, but just try to keep it in the rails, I guess.

Q. What's key to navigating around this course this week?

BUD CAULEY: You have to be in the fairway. The rough is impossible. With the greens being a little bit firmer, too, if you hit the ball in the fairway, you get some shorter clubs and you can make some birdies, but if you're in the rough, I don't think you can be in it all day and really score.

Q. What's the push and motivation to get to the BMW Championship next week?

BUD CAULEY: Yeah, I would love to play and compete. It's obviously a great event. It's going to be a field of the top 50 guys this year. I'd love to be there and love to play, but I have to take care of this week first.

Q. How does this round of 64 give you the confidence needed to maintain your success heading into hopefully the BMW next week?

BUD CAULEY: Yeah, it's nice. It's always nice to get off to a good start. Especially on this course, you can't really press too much, so it's nice to get a few under my belt. Going off early tomorrow, so it's always nice to play well the first day.

Q. This is your best round in your fourth appearance at TPC Southwind. What do you think was the biggest difference for you today?

BUD CAULEY: I think I drove the ball well. For the most part, maybe missed a couple fairways, but from what I can remember, I was in the fairway most of the day, which helped a lot.

Q. Do you think the earlier tee time helps you even more tomorrow?

BUD CAULEY: Yeah. I mean, it will be a little bit cooler, I guess, which is nice. I don't think the wind is really supposed to blow too much all day tomorrow, so I don't know if that'll be a factor. But to beat the heat a little bit will be nice.
