Q. Sam, solid round today. Just talk through the conditions out there first round.
SAM BURNS: I think we kind of knew it was going to be a wet day, off and on rain all day. I was able to put together a nice round. Felt like I drove it well, gave myself a good bit of chances. Yeah, overall a solid day.
Q. Just give us some insight into how the conditions changed between yesterday and today with the rain the golf course took.
SAM BURNS: It was definitely a lot firmer the last couple days, fairways especially. So just made the golf course much longer, a little bit longer clubs coming into the green than kind of what we had in practice. I think that made it a little bit tougher.
Then also the greens being as soft as they were, having some wedges into some holes, really trying to focus on control and spin, I think that was another challenge that we didn't have the first couple days.
Q. You're right in the thick of this thing early on. You had a bit of a lull midseason around THE PLAYERS where your form dipped off, but you have steadily improved since then. What have you worked on since then that has you in good shape so far today?
SAM BURNS: I think it's a little bit of golf ebbs and flows and trying to kind of get it back on track a little bit sooner than later.
Yeah, it's been nice to play well the last few weeks and kind of get some momentum going into this week. I feel like I played a really nice round today.
Q. Statistics showed you had a pretty good putting day. Did it feel that way?
SAM BURNS: Yeah, I think today was just trying to give yourself as many opportunities as you could on the greens. They're pretty slopey, so trying to get it in the right spot and give yourself easier looks, I think it was important. Overall, a nice day.
