Q. What would you have said this morning if we said you were going to shoot 68 but only have three pars?
RYAN FOX: I'm not sure I would have believed you, to be honest. 68 I would have taken. It was obviously a tricky day out there. The wind was up early, and we got rain probably the last eight holes.
To be honest, I felt bipolar on the greens today. If I had a birdie putt, it looked like it had a chance of going in, and if I had a par putt, I was straight out of it and walking to tap the next one in.
Yeah, it was a strange, strange day. But happy I didn't play my way out of the tournament making six bogeys.
Q. What was it like to have that hot start with four in a row but then turn it around after the turn?
RYAN FOX: Yeah, I couldn't wish for a better start, two great wedge shots on 1 and 2, holed a nice putt on 3, and 4 was a bit of a gimme today downwind. Yeah, then I missed a short one on 5 for par and birdied 6 and thought, okay, this is -- I've still got it going, and then it got hard around the turn. 8 is always a tough hole. 9 was 220 yards straight into the wind and I think probably playing three and a half today. Then we got the rain come in, and it got tricky.
I was happy to make a couple of birdies through the worst of the rain, 13, 14, 15. Gave myself a couple good chances the last two holes, as well, for birdie. But as I said, I would have taken 68 to start the day, that's for sure.
Q. Did you and your caddie recognize that par wasn't on the scorecard there for a while?
RYAN FOX: Yeah, I kind of knew through -- I think I said on 15 tee that I'd had one par at this point today. We kind of had a laugh about it. Yeah, made a nice birdie on 15 and then bogeyed 16. Kind of thought, well, let's try to make one par for the day, finish birdie-birdie. Unfortunately it didn't happen, but as I said, I would have taken 68 to start the day. I've got a chance tomorrow, so that's all you can hope for going into Sunday.
Q. Chance for tomorrow, what's the mindset going into the final round?
RYAN FOX: I think it's probably a little weather dependent. I know we're going to get some in the morning. This golf course definitely gives up some birdies when conditions allow it, but if the wind gets up, the greens firm up a little bit, it gets tricky pretty quickly.
I think tomorrow it's kind of pick your moments to be aggressive. You do have lots of wedges in here. The par-5s are all gettable. But if you're out of position, you've got to take your medicine and try to scramble a par. That's the theory tomorrow; just sort of take it on for the most part.
Q. You played here last year and played well. You like this golf course. Is it a good enough golf course to hold up for a full-field test? Is it hard enough for everybody to play?
RYAN FOX: 100 percent. I think the recurring theme from guys that have played the last two years is pleasantly surprised when they come here. Maybe you don't expect too much from an alternate event or just expect a resort kind of golf course, and this is definitely not that. The greens are small. They're fast. They're slopey. All you'd have to do to trick it up around here is grow the rough a little longer than what they've got it now, and this place would become a real test.
You've still got plenty of birdie chances, but you've got to golf your ball pretty well. If the wind gets up around here, as well, it gets pretty tricky, and I definitely think it stands up to a full-field event.
