Q. 5-under today. How you feeling heading into the final round?
HARRIS ENGLISH: Yeah, pretty tired. That was a long round. Feeling good about it. Kind of a fast start. Had a tap-in on 1 and then kind of slow in the middle of the front nine. I think I had two or three birdies in a row to get things rolling.
Like the first day, wind started picking up when we were on 10. Started blowing pretty good. Definitely changes a little bit. Changes the mode from being super aggressive to you don't know how much the wind is going to affect it at this altitude. Makes it a little more difficult.
I navigated it pretty well. Made some really good six-, seven-footers out there. The greens were getting a little chewed up with all the play, but ended up holing some good putts. Feel good about it.
I think I'm going to be two shots back, and really anything can happen out here. Somebody is going to go low tomorrow. I'm going to keep the same mindset of being aggressive and see how many birdies I can make.
Q. Obviously winning is in the mind. Knowing what's at stake with the FedExCup fall and getting into the Signature Events going into the fall season, how much was that was on your mind knowing what was at stake?
HARRIS ENGLISH: Yeah, a little bit. I mean, I just love playing those tournaments. I loved playing Pebble Beach last year, Riviera. It's more about I don't want to miss out on some of those big events.
But this whole fall I want to get my game in shape to be playing well and get in the hunt like I am now, really get it in shape for next year. Been working on it pretty hard.
It's fun being in the mix. I love playing tournament golf and I love those butterflies every day and trying to win golf tournaments. It's a lot of fun, and that's why I wanted to play here.
Q. Is there anything in particular this week that has shown up for you may be as opposed to the last two weeks at Procore and Sanderson missing the cut?
HARRIS ENGLISH: Yeah, I had my coach caddie for me at the Procore. First time he ever caddied for me. He saw some things, some triggers I do on the golf course that aren't great.
My regular caddie, Eric, came back last week. I probably played a little better than my score. Just didn't really get anything going. It trended a little bit better last week; got some good work in on Monday and the first couple days it started to click a little more.
My putting is probably the biggest thing. Not a whole lot of changes. Just sometimes you read them really well and your speed is good and you make a lot putts and sometimes you don't.
This week I feel like I've been rolling it really well and hitting the ball really well and giving myself a lot of chances.
Q. Going back, I think it was three seasons where you win the team event with Kuchar, play lights out in Naples, and have the two-victory season on TOUR. Is it surprising to you to stand here and not have won since then, or is that an injury thing combined with life happens?
HARRIS ENGLISH: Yeah, I mean, I think I had surgery early 2022, and definitely takes a while to get back into tournament shape.
I was decently close at the PGA this year. Had a good first two or three days. But, yeah, winning is hard; I don't care what tournament you're playing in on the PGA TOUR. There is a lot of good guys out here. A lot guys very hungry to win.
Everybody from veterans out here to the young guys coming up like Matt McCarty who won three times on the Korn Ferry TOUR. Played with him last week and he is a really good player and obviously knows how to win.
Yeah, winning on the PGA TOUR is hard. When you get the chances you got to take them.
Q. When you see a young guy like that coming up who you hadn't thought that much about, is there a part of that goes oh, brother?
HARRIS ENGLISH: Well, I mean, I know how good and competitive the Korn Ferry TOUR is. It's just a matter of time before these guys get out here and play good golf. Just the depth in golf in general is unbelievable. I see it with the young are guys moving to Sea Island every year.
Just keeps me hungry to stay up with them and to keep playing and keep working hard. I'm 35. This is my 13th season on the TOUR. I feel like I work as hard now as I did when I was 22.
Q. Patton inspire you winning the Procore?
HARRIS ENGLISH: Of course. I love seeing my friends win. I know how hard he's been working and realizing his talent and his ability finally. Yu just go through ups and downs in this game. I'm glad he found some stuff that worked.
I know how good of a grinder he is and how much he loves to win. It was awesome to see.
Q. You're not hugging trees out there?
HARRIS ENGLISH: I'm not doing any tree hugging. I think he has some good techniques going. Definitely noticed a difference in him when we are playing money games back home. Really just life in general.
I think he's in a good spot right now.
Q. Good you're not hugging trees. There aren't very many here.
HARRIS ENGLISH: Yeah, hugging rocks here.
Q. As Stephan Jaeger walks by, I know you guys went to high school together. Any friendly banter between you guys this week? Will there be now that you're both in the hunt?
HARRIS ENGLISH: I really haven't seen him a whole a lot this week. He has his family here; I've got my family. We've stayed together a few times throughout this year.
I hope we get to playing together tomorrow. He's one of my lifelong friends and we go way back. I don't know what he did on the last hole. Yeah, it'll be fun if we get going. Obviously he knows how to win as well. It was awesome to see him win Houston last year.
Awesome to see him playing well.
