Quick Quotes

Q. Going from T42 to No. 1, tell me about your start. How that happened you shape the rest of the round.

MATT McCARTY: Yeah, good. Made a few putts early and just had it going. Always fun to go, you know, sub30, 28 on the front was great. Yeah, fun day.

Q. The bogey stung a little bit. Had to have on the back side.

MATT McCARTY: Yeah, couple of them. I mean 4 kind of got away with one. Walking away with fives, whatever.

6 was just a really bad wedge shot ripping it off the green there. Yeah, thought I hit a good putt. Kind of on the same lie as Billy. His broke a lot. Yeah, hanging around in a good spot heading into the weekend.

Q. Does being the defending champion give you a little bit more laser focus?

MATT McCARTY: Yeah, definitely. That's a unique opportunity, and to be able to go back to back would be something cool, yeah.

Q. First two wins on TOUR period.

MATT McCARTY: Yeah, exactly. Wish every week was at this place.

Q. I would like to go back. This will be your second sub39 in 12 days. Now that you have two under your belt, what do they feel like?

MATT McCARTY: Feel really easy honestly. Golf doesn't feel that easy all the time.

Yeah, just flowing and just kind of not really thinking about much. Just playing golf, and the ball just seemed to find the bottom of the hole a little bit easier.

Q. I heard you say the words about having good vibes here. I heard your caddie talk about the good mojo here. Give us a little bit more of what goes into -- why does it feel so good?

MATT McCARTY: I don't know. I mean, kind of climate is similar to growing up in Arizona, just desert golf in general. But winning out here in my second start on TOUR, that's pretty much it.

Then obviously now being an ambassador and being able to come back and have their support and everything, and had a couple trips here throughout the year. So, yeah, just happy to be back and happy to be playing well.

Q. Did the finish yesterday where you were having to rush to the beat the darkness, did that affect rhythm or were you okay to shake that off?

MATT McCARTY: It's always nice to finish. Having to come back out in the morning, you know, it's kind of tough normally. But, yeah, it was pretty dark hitting that eagle putt on 18 yesterday. I would rather do that and get to sleep in an extra 35, 40 minutes than have to come back out and hot it.

Q. If you were Max Homa, would you have left that last shot?

MATT McCARTY: I don't know. You would have to ask Max about that one.
