Quick Quotes

Q. Rico, second career runner-up finish on TOUR. I know you were chasing a lot of the day there and at one point got to within three strokes. How do you see the day unfold from your perspective?

RICO HOEY: You know, Michael played great from the start so for me I was just trying to keep up with him.

Yeah, he kept pushing me to hit great shots and make good putts. That's all I could do. You know, it was a fun week for me.

Q. How satisfied are you with your play, especially as of late?

RICO HOEY: Yeah, it's been awesome. Start of the fall I was outside of the top 100 and I think now projected me up pretty high. Kind of nice to know hopefully I have a secured card for next year and going to Sony next year. That will be fun.

No, I switched to the long putter after Wyndham. To have three Top 10s out of the four weeks it's incredible for me, so I'm really happy where I'm headed.

Q. How much does the focus change? I think you're projected 61st. Now the opportunity to maybe get inside, in between 51 and 60, which with get you into Pebble and Genesis for the next year. Do the goals kind of shift now?

RICO HOEY: You know, I think I'm just going to keep playing well or keep playing the best I can and let the cards unfold for itself.

It's something I just want to keep getting better, giving myself chances to win like this week, and so if it happens and I play well and get into the Signature Events, great. If not, I'm just going to keep my head down and keep working hard.

Q. I would love it if you could share a little bit more about what went into the putter switch. Did it take a bit of trial and error? How you did you land on the broomstick? Did you even expect such quick returns?

RICO HOEY: I did not expect this quick of a return, especially finishing second now. But, no, it's been kind of a rough season for me with putting. I've always just been a great ball-striker and I feel like I drive the ball great, but just putting-wise has always been too streaky. This year I just didn't make enough putts.

Started working with my putting coach, Marcus Potter, and my caddie Bryan Martin after Wyndham. I think I just putt horribly. They sent a bunch of broomsticks. We asked like Titleist and all these other companies to send broomsticks and I show up to the house and there it is, so I'm like, I didn't think it was that bad, but I tried it out during that month off.

I ended up breaking two course records with it within the first two weeks. I'm like, all right, I think this is it. It's been great. It's been good to me. Just going to keep working hard with it. There are some things I need to keep working on, but, yeah, it's been great.
