Saturday Morning Foursomes
JOHN DEVER: Welcome to the 43rd Ryder Cup.
Q. Sergio, 24 Ryder Cup wins for you. When you hear that statistic, what does it mean?
SERGIO GARCIA: It's great but it's not. We need more wins and unfortunately we are not getting them at the moment. I didn't even know. Steve Sands told me on the 17th hole. I didn't know the record and I didn't care.
Obviously Jon and I, we did what we had to and what we could, and unfortunately it just looks like the American guys are just playing a little bit better than us, and it's a shame.
But you know, we are not giving up. We're going to fight until the end as hard as we can. Hopefully we have a good afternoon this afternoon and see what happens.
Q. European side is taking as much joy from the little moments that we can so far, and your approach to 16, the par 5, in all of those matches, in all of the wins, could you have hit any better shot than that?
SERGIO GARCIA: It was a good shot and at the right moment, too. Obviously someone in the crowd shouted, "Come on, you're going to choke," and it was nice to prove him wrong I guess.
But like I said, it's nice. Obviously that's what we are trying to do. We are trying to win the match so we can take points on our favor and take points away from the U.S., but we need more. At the moment we are not getting them.
Q. You were picked clearly to play with Jon in foursomes. Is it good to realize that when Pádraig Harrington picked you, that you were successful versus maybe some of the other picks that didn't do exactly what he was looking for?
SERGIO GARCIA: No, I'm not going to go that way, sorry, Alex. I'm not going to start ripping -- that's not what we do. Everyone is trying their hardest.
I'm trying my hardest, and I didn't start well this morning. My first four holes were not good, and Jon was there to save me. You know, everyone is trying as hard as they can. Sometimes you don't play as well and sometimes you get outplayed. It's as simple as that.
But I can tell you that we are all trying as hard as we can.
