Q. An important point for Team Europe, also a very testy exchange on 16 between yourself and Bryson DeChambeau and his caddie Greg Bodine. What happened from your perspective?
JUSTIN ROSE: Yeah, it was a shame that the match got to that point because it was actually a really great match. I was waiting to putt, the boys were obviously working on their read, obviously going through a lot of their sort of whatever, calculations and bits and pieces, so I sort of waited a few seconds and then I felt like they came up again and I was sort of -- I questioned whether -- I was like, it's my putt, right, or however I said it. Maybe I didn't say it as politely as I could have said it in the moment, but by no means was there any disrespect or anything like that, but obviously it was taken the wrong way.
Yeah, I don't think we should dwell on that, honestly. I said to the boys, if you want me to say, excuse me, please, then yeah, my bad, but it was an amazing match honestly. I think we got off to a great start. The quality of golf was exceptional. Tommy played incredible around the turn in the middle of the back nine, and it was an epic match to be a part of.
Q. Tommy, it was a pretty hot-tempered afternoon all around here at Bethpage Black. How much is that a function of how intense the Ryder Cup has become?
TOMMY FLEETWOOD: Yeah, I guess it's part of it, right? I think, like Justin said, it's one moment out of two days of a lot of golf and a lot of great golf. He might have complemented me a little bit; he played on his own today.
You're out there and -- yeah, it happens. I don't think it's that big of a deal. But for us, I think -- I really enjoyed being part of that match, even though I didn't contribute quite that much. Just watching Justin there today and being by his side was amazing.
Another point. Every single point is huge, and that's what you look at. You're looking at the points on the board, and so far we've got some blue and we want to keep that going. But let's finish today off and then let's think about tomorrow.
Q. Both teams talked after the match. Is this incident put to bed from your perspective?
JUSTIN ROSE: Listen, I hope so. I spoke to the boys. It should be in my opinion. There was no intent behind it whatsoever. Like I said, I think especially Scottie, the way -- I admire him more than anybody else out on Tour the way he goes about his business, the way he goes about his life, and obviously just huge respect all around.
Yeah, but from my point of view, it was something that was sort of taken in a way that wasn't intended in a way, but obviously it was a big putt, big moment. I'm trying to control my environment as well in that scenario. We're all competitors, right, so I think that's all within the framework of what we've got to do out here.
But yeah, happy days, I think, all around.
