Quick Quotes

Q. A 61, tying the course record, great round of golf. Were you enjoying yourself out there?

CAMERON TRINGALE: I was. Golf is more fun when the putts are going in, and they were for me today. I had a great group of guys to play with and it was relaxed. Everyone more or less had some good shots, and the vibe was good in our group no doubt.

Q. Not your first trip to Scotland and certainly not your first time out on links, but coming into this week, would you have described yourself as a confident links player?

CAMERON TRINGALE: I would say. So I think I'm pretty creative when it comes to the shots around the greens and being able to visualise and imagine shots that are not traditional for us in the States. I just think it's so much fun to have that kind of optionality and to have fun with those shots. There's probably five ways you can play most shots. It's fun to be an artist out here. In that respect, I like my chances here.

Q. So what have you learned about the Renaissance course here that you'll take into tomorrow and the rest of the week?

CAMERON TRINGALE: Hard to learn when you have such a great day by I definitely learned the last couple days just how strong the wind is, like how much it's moving the ball, particularly side-to-side and the crosswinds. So that was one thing that I was able to navigate pretty well today. Obviously continue to hope to do more of that.

Q. Phenomenal round of golf tying the course record, 59 watch there for a little bit. Talk about the middle where you made nine birdies and 11 holes, what was clicking four?

CAMERON TRINGALE: I believe it's course record over here. The putter was the story. I got off to a slow, uncommitted start and I decided if you're going to be out here, let's make some positive swings. Started to hole a couple putts. Honestly that's what happened. My putter was in fuego. Middle of the round, my striking matched my putting. It's the only way it can happen.

Q. Is that the reason why you selected putter on the last hole? You were wavering between wedge and putter for the third shot.

CAMERON TRINGALE: Yeah, I thought being into the wind, I just wasn't sure how much the wedge was going to stop so I just felt more comfortable keeping the ball rolling on the ground. It was pretty windy there coming up the last, so I just thought if I can roll it with a nice positive roll, I had my best chance to make it.

Q. It wasn't just the birdies you made; it was the par saves. Those weren't easy putts, career-low 61 on the PGA TOUR. How does that feel overall?

CAMERON TRINGALE: Honestly it feels good. I wasn't thinking about my score. Wasn't thinking about where I was in the tournament. Like I said, I got off to a slow start. I had to make a couple 10-footers for par in the first few holes. I was just focused on playing my game.

Q. How was that out there?

CAMERON TRINGALE: It was a lot of fun. I was really hot with the putter and my ball-striking matched up as well and I gave myself tons of chances and it was just one of those days when they all found the hole.

Q. What was your expectations coming into this weekend? What experience have you had on a course like this previously?

CAMERON TRINGALE: I played here in 2015 and a few Opens, so I've had moderate experience. I'm not a total newbie but I love playing links golf. It's so much fun. I would definitely have been looking forward to coming to this side of the pond, and my expectations were not so much around score but just about enjoying being here and soaking it all up.

Q. In terms of preparation for next week, could it be any better?

CAMERON TRINGALE: I don't think so. For me, I love playing a tournament a week before a major if I can, or before any big event. Like to get warmed up, get in that competitive mindset and so to do it on a links-ish course here is a pretty good way to prepare.

Q. 61 your first round, not bad shooting, is it.

CAMERON TRINGALE: Yeah, very pleased.

Q. In terms of your overall play, what do you expect?

CAMERON TRINGALE: I wouldn't say my game is necessarily been trending. I've had some flashes of brilliance in the last couple months but this was a special day for sure.

Q. What would it mean to you to win here?

CAMERON TRINGALE: It would mean a whole lot. I haven't had a professional win on my own, and obviously Scotland is where golf started, so this place is special. Everyone here has appreciation for the game. It's unique and I would say it would be a good tune-up for St Andrews.

Q. And big crowds here today?

CAMERON TRINGALE: They started to feed in there the last few holes. It's been great so far.
