Quick Quotes

Q. You're five off the lead at the moment. How was the course today for you? Did it feel like it was comfortable or any shot, just in terms of a reaction of how you finished today?

EWEN FERGUSON: I'm happy with the way I finished and the other guys, obviously some did well and some didn't. Obviously it's just the first round, so it's just part of the process the tournament. I'm happy with how I dealt with my game, and hopefully I can carry that into the next few days and if I keep make some putts, hopefully I'll be there and thereabouts.

Q. Is that it, trying to temper your emotions at the moment?

EWEN FERGUSON: Yeah, it's just first round. I've had good first rounds before and not done well. I've had bad ones and done great. So it's just part of playing in tournaments and just trying to keep your emotions kind of level.

Q. What's the reaction from the crowd?

EWEN FERGUSON: It's been great. Even in Ireland last week, it was cool. Yeah, it's just nice that people know your name and get a few claps here and there. Hopefully keep going and keep a nice, strong head.

Q. Solid start for you. Did you manage to in the heat of the moment have a bit of fun? Did you enjoy yourself?

EWEN FERGUSON: Yeah, I was making sure that was one of the things I was focusing on at the start of the day, like, right, you can get a bad break. I was warming up this morning when my coach, he was like, you're going to get a couple bad breaks out there. It's just part of it. Try and deal with it as best you can. Last week I got a bad break and got quite angry, and it kind of led on to the next few holes.

I got a bad break out there at one point and my caddie was like, remember, this could be the moment where you need to step up and deal with things maturely, so quite happy with that.

Q. What are your thoughts on the season so far and the current form that you're in, are you in a good place?

EWEN FERGUSON: Yeah, I'm in the greatest place I've been in my golf life. I've got a win and stuff like that. If it wasn't for that, I wouldn't be here. Yeah, feel great but about my golf life, I feel like I'm improving and I'm on the right track. Even today I can just learn from some of these guys. I'm playing with PGA TOUR champions today and Presidents Cup players, so it's pretty cool and hopefully I can learn off them.

Q. And your heart must go out to fellow Scot, this is his home course, Richie Ramsay, having to pull out at the last minute?

EWEN FERGUSON: I didn't know that, actually. What happened?

Q. He had to pull out through illness this morning. What are your thoughts on that? How disappointed you are for him?

EWEN FERGUSON: He's helped me quite a bit this year actually. Just when I've been a few lunches and stuff like that alone, he's kind of came over and chatted away. He's been quite helpful and really open to giving advice. So that is pretty sad to hear because I knew he was really looking forward to this. He's a great player, and I'm sure he'll come back in other events. It's a shame it's his home open.
