Q. You've played lots of excellent rounds of golf this year. How good was that?
THOMAS DETRY: Got off to a great start. Birdied the first, third, holed out on the fourth. So I was quickly a couple under par and then I just kept playing some really solid golf. I found that shot off the tee, a low tee drive, which I don't really have a bad shot with it really and hit a lot of fairways and put myself in good positions and holed some good putts.
Q. Second here in 2021. Sixth time you've shot 66 or better at this course. What is it about this place that suits you?
THOMAS DETRY: First of all, it's good to be back in Europe. Haven't been back in pretty much since January, so it's nice to be back. I love the place and I love Scotland, which is good, and when the weather is like this, it's better in Scotland in my opinion.
I have my family with me and I love the place and I love the course and I love the track. I feel like the course is getting better every year. Conditions are good. They added a few bunkers here and there and it makes the course better and better every year. I really enjoy playing.
Q. You had your best finish at major recently and broke into the Top-50 in the world. What's the biggest factor in breaking new ground in your game?
THOMAS DETRY: Trusting my process. We've seen that we've done a really good job the last couple of years and it's been going up that way every single year getting better and better and better. You know, like just trusting, like I haven't really done anything differently. I've done a bit of meditation here and there trying to use my mind in a better way, I want to say. That's kind of been the difference, I think, and just keep trusting it, keep trusting my coach. I think we are doing well.
Q. Another good round here at the Renaissance Club. You like it here. What's the key for you here in this golf tournament?
THOMAS DETRY: The key is I've taken two weeks off, which it's been a while to be honest. It's nice to be back in Europe as well. I have my family with me and I love this place. Finished second here in 2021. Golf tournament off to a great start. Holed out on the fourth, as well.
It's been good to me, this place, I don't know why. But I love the course as well. I think the course is getting better every year. They have made great changes every year, adding bunkers and the rough is thick as well. It's enjoyable to play and come here.
Q. You put yourself in a really good position this year, trying to get over that threshold. What have you seen improve most in your golf game that allows to you get in that position?
THOMAS DETRY: You know everything is a little bit better. My putting has been really good this year, as well. Striking with the irons has been good as well. I've tended to struggle a little bit when approaching to the greens. My iron shots were not that good. I've been working on that a little bit with my coach. I think my brain has a lot to do with it, but it's getting better. I'm able to use that energy and focus and have the bad thoughts linger less.
Q. What is it when you come back here that makes you feel so comfortable in Europe?
THOMAS DETRY: It's just home. It feels like home. My wife is British. We have a little place here. It's lovely to be here. I've got my family with me. It's only an hour flight when we want to go home, which compared to when we are overseas in the U.S., it's a 12-hour flight to go home. So all these little things make it a little bit more comfortable for us and it's good to be back here.
