New York Golf Club 10, Jupiter Links GC 3
THE MODERATOR: We'd like to welcome Jupiter Links into the media center. Unfortunately came up on the short end of the stick after your great putt, Tom, on No. 9. Can you talk about what you learned from today's match.
TIGER WOODS: I learned that I had 99 yards. I hit a 100-yard wedge shot --
KEVIN KISNER: You didn't have 99 yards.
TIGER WOODS: That was one of the most embarrassing things to ever happen. I can't believe that just happened.
Q. Tiger, I'm curious about your routine on TGL days. You've spoken in the past about waking up at 3:00 to get ready to play a tournament. What's your day look like when you set to compete at 7:00 p.m. here?
TIGER WOODS: It's different. It was a busy morning with some work stuff that I had to do. I got here, probably didn't exactly do my normal routine, but hey, it's just the way it goes.
It's different playing late at night like this. This is definitely different for us as golfers. But hey, it is what it is.
Q. Tiger, you mentioned in your pre-match interview with Scott Van Pelt that this is where your mom last saw you play. What do you remember her impressions of TGL's potential as an avenue to create interest in golf?
TIGER WOODS: Well, I think that she really enjoyed watching me play. It was awesome to have her in the stands and watching us play and having the kids here and family and friends. It was a great moment. I'm definitely appreciative of her being here.
Q. To expand on the emotions, Tiger, coming in, you mentioned on that same interview that it was the last time she saw you play golf. When did that start hitting you? Was that walk in something that was --
TIGER WOODS: I had a hard time driving down here. I hadn't hit a golf ball since I played with the President and just put everything away and shut it off. I had a really hard time getting here and then reliving all the moments that we've had, my mom, how excited she was to have Charlie drive her here. So those are some great moments and great memories.
It's been a hard process.
Q. Tiger, you mentioned your kids; how cool is it to have them so close up and personal with you on the green?
TIGER WOODS: Well, I think that they enjoy it, seeing their dad play and compete out there, because at a normal event, you're not going to be that close and not going to have the sights and the sounds that you normally would have at most sporting events. Most sporting events you sit in the stands and you watch the players play. In our sport, the gallery probably walks more than we do.
Q. You spoke Sunday about the need, willingness to play more golf. Would next week be a consideration for you?
TIGER WOODS: I really haven't thought about golf, so I don't think I'm going to be thinking about it for just a little bit here.
Q. There's always a lot of questions simmering around what happens in the beautiful SoFi Center after the season ends. Any ideas floating around? Anything you can reveal? Is that all sort of in the works?
TIGER WOODS: Well, hopefully next year we can expand on what we've done this year. We've learned a lot, and I think that we've brought a great product to the game of golf, and spreading the game in a different way.
I think you see that with the players and the camaraderie and the experience and the joy that they have being with one another. Because we really don't get a chance to do that in our sport, for us to come together like this and have fun and entertain and support each other, it's great.
Q. Tom and Kevin, Tiger mentioned you guys supporting him coming in, gave him a hug. Did either of you get to know his mom, and what memories if you did? And what was that like for you being his main support tonight?
KEVIN KISNER: I've met Ms. Woods a few times obviously at majors and other big golf tournaments that I played in with Tiger and seeing her there. Probably spent the most time with her here at TGL actually the first two weeks, and she made sure to let me know how poorly I played in the first match and then was so excited in the second match that we won and turned it around.
She was so competitive and loved watching us win, and I think that's a great memory for me. Obviously I've known Tiger a long time and always there to support him and always will be.
Q. Tiger, it came out today you're signing Karl Vilips to your brand Sun Day Red. Karl obviously a Stanford golfer, very talented. What went into making that selection?
TIGER WOODS: Well, it's exciting for us as a new company that we're able to sign guys like Karl, and it's exciting. It's exciting for all of us to support us in starting his career. Just excited for this opportunity to grow the brand and be able to sign young kids that believe in what we're trying to do.
