The Bay Golf Club 6, Jupiter Links GC 3
THE MODERATOR: We'd like to welcome the Bay Golf Club into the SoFi center. Congratulations on your victory but also congratulations on your playoff berth which you guys accepted yesterday. Can you talk about hearing that you guys had clinched that spot?
SHANE LOWRY: Yeah, it was nice. It's nice. Obviously the first thing you want to do is come in here and get off to a good start and get into the playoffs and give yourself a chance to win this thing. That was great.
But we came here tonight and we really wanted to win and keep our winning streak going. You want to finish as high up as you can to get the best seed possible.
Yeah, I thought we did a great job tonight. Obviously the crucial hole was the 9th and we came out on top, so that was pretty cool.
Q. We've talked a lot about the hammer over the last couple weeks, especially with the rule change here a couple weeks ago. Can you talk about how that impacted today's match?
SHANE LOWRY: I think it's the first conversation we've ever had -- in the locker room today, we were trying to come up with strategies for it. We didn't really.
WYNDHAM CLARK: We talked about it and then we didn't do anything we talked about.
But I think the new hammer rule is great. Three is fantastic, and I'd like to see five personally, being "Hammer Clark" as Shane calls me.
But no, it's good because I think whenever you have the advantage it's nice to throw a hammer and put the pressure on them, and like you saw on the 9th hole today, they put the pressure on us and then we hit an amazing shot, put it back on them, and we ultimately won three points.
It just makes it more exciting, and it feels a little bit more like a real hammer game that you'd play with your buddies back at your home course.
Q. Question for Shane and Wyndham. Is there anyone on TOUR or TGL that you'd rather be chipping than Min Woo because it feels like it's a three-foot putt when he's around the greens.
WYNDHAM CLARK: I mean, no. Honestly, I'm at the point where I'm going to start taking lessons from him.
SHANE LOWRY: I knew he could chip but I didn't realize he was this good.
WYNDHAM CLARK: It's a joke. It's unbelievable.
MIN WOO LEE: Thanks, guys.
Q. You guys all grew up playing in parts of the world that weren't necessarily conducive to year-round outdoor golf. Do you have any experience with simulator golf growing up or practicing or was TGL really your first introduction into playing in this type of environment?
SHANE LOWRY: It's my real -- being honest, before I didn't enjoy simulators and hitting it into a screen 10 feet in front of me. I visualize shots a lot when I'm out playing on the course and I see golf a little bit differently than most people, but I found this experience way more enjoyable.
Obviously this is different than your home simulator. This is something bigger and better. Yeah, it's just a lot of fun.
I'm having a great time, but yeah, I've never really experienced much of simulator golf at home.
WYNDHAM CLARK: I did quite a bit growing up in Colorado. There would be quite a lot of days with a lot of snow on the ground, and let's say if I wasn't playing basketball that year or had a day off from basketball, I'd go hit balls. So I got somewhat used to it. None of them were as accurate or as good as this.
But that was a lot of my winter. That was how I stayed kind of sharp so that when I got into the spring golf I could compete.
Q. Shane, I don't think anyone has more viral celebration moments than you do after big wins. Have you thought about how you'll celebrate clinching playoffs or potentially winning the championship here with these guys?
SHANE LOWRY: My house is 10 minutes away, so I'd say it'll start there. Who knows where it'll finish.
WYNDHAM CLARK: Hopefully Marc Lasry helps finish it.
Q. Shane and Min Woo, obviously all you guys, you're undefeated, a lot of swagger. You feel good about your games. You're heading over to the champ this week. Does any of that confidence translate to what you're getting ready to do for the next four days starting on Thursday over there, Shane and Min Woo?
MIN WOO LEE: Yeah, obviously it's nice to get a win and hit some good shots. Probably hit one of the best shots of my life from that rough, so that's quite cool. Hopefully I can do that on the course this week.
SHANE LOWRY: Yeah, look, it's obviously a little bit different coming in here and playing indoors. You go out to PGA National on Thursday, it's probably going to be blowing 20 miles an hour off that lake on 15 and it's a little bit different.
But yeah, it's nice to get a win and keep the ball rolling. I felt like it was important for us to win this tonight, not only for ourselves but for this tournament for us going forward, this particular competition to keep that momentum going.
But yeah, like myself and Min, obviously going into this week, we're actually playing together on Thursday and Friday so that'll be pretty cool, and I'm looking forward to that.
Q. There was some talk after yesterday's matches about adjustments guys have made with this technology, format, things like that, maybe starting fades a little bit more on center. If you hit a pull cut it doesn't really fade as much. What's been the biggest adjustment in terms of hitting the ball, seeing it hit the screen and having it do what you want to do?
SHANE LOWRY: I keep hitting it too far.
WYNDHAM CLARK: It's funny, I feel like every team has had something different. Some guys say it doesn't curve for them. I feel like we've had really good direction, we've just struggled with our distance. I think a little bit is just because we're amped up and then I think the grass is just a touch furry, so you sometimes maybe get a little bit of a jump where it sits high. But honestly, we've hit it really straight. We've kind of been off on our distance.
SHANE LOWRY: I think even though I watched last night, I think the standard has gotten better as the weeks have gone on. I think it's just guys figuring it out. At the end of the day, we're professional golfers and some of the best players in the world, so we will figure it out if you give us enough time. I think that's what's happened over the last few weeks.
Q. How come you haven't hit a stinger yet, Min Woo?
MIN WOO LEE: Because there's a little thing 10 meters away and I'd probably hit that and it wouldn't go anywhere; the simulator wouldn't catch it. But it's more of a 5-wood course.
Q. Wyndham, you were great to bring over a signed souvenir for Smylie Kaufman for attending his first TGL match. Shane I noticed you brought over a glove, as well, unfortunately unsigned at the moment. Just wondering, Min Woo, if you have any other memorabilia you want to drop off for Smylie, and Shane, if we can get a timeline on when you might sign that glove for him?
MIN WOO LEE: Yeah, I threw out some hats, it was just on the other side.
SHANE LOWRY: I don't want to see Smylie this week. I've got some bad memories of him here, especially around that course at the Honda.
WYNDHAM CLARK: But he was wearing Jupiter Links stuff so I figured I'd give him the winning team's --
MIN WOO LEE: We'll give it to you.
