Atlanta Drive GC 4, New York Golf Club 3
Q. New York Golf Club comes up one shot short based on some fantastic putting and shots from Atlanta. What are your thoughts right now?
XANDER SCHAUFFELE: I thought we handled the hammer a little bit better tonight. I just think back to yesterday, it's a best of three, and it's sort of a course of work, and I really feel like I messed up yesterday dealing with the hammer.
Tonight was better. Early on, I'm taking Cam about eight or nine feet to win us two points all the time, and Billy Ho making that putt hurt us. I liked Rickie's spot in the bunker. I thought he was going to get that up-and-down 75 percent of the time, and I had Billy making that thing less than 25 percent.
I'm running that spot back. I'm trusting in my guys. But they earned it for sure.
Q. What was it like to watch that putt go in when Billy hit that putt?
RICKIE FOWLER: Well, it is a spot being up there if you're not coming from too far. It is makeable, but there's a lot of movement right and then you have to be in the right spot for it to feed left. So it is makeable but at a very low percentage.
Like Xander said, knew there was a very good chance that I was going to be getting that up-and-down and taking the gamble that that small percentage wasn't going to kick in. Billy and the guys last night and tonight, they made more putts than us, and that's a lot of what it came down to.
Q. Similarly, as you guys got back here, Cam, you were assessing everything that happened. As you look at what just happened, how do you assess how that one went?
CAMERON YOUNG: Yeah, I think it's the same story. The short game in here is what wins you matches, and unfortunately we just didn't have anything going tonight.
Q. You were so close on that last shot, and I can see it, you're still frustrated.
CAMERON YOUNG: Yeah, for sure. Xander giving me the hammer to throw, I was really excited to win us the match there and unfortunately missed by the narrowest of margins. It looked pretty good from my angle, and I wouldn't want to try it again, but would have loved it to go a different way.
