The Bay Golf Club 5, New York Golf Club 3
LUDVIG ÅBERG: I think we got off to a hot start. We played pretty well first couple of holes to kind of get a lead early on and was able to sort of dodge a few bullets down the way but managed to ride it out and win the match.
Q. Wyndham, can I ask about 13, throwing of the hammer? That's the first time it's happened.
WYNDHAM CLARK: So Derek, our ref, he normally puts his hand out, like there's a signal he does, and you can't throw it anymore. I look at him, and he hadn't done it, and he kind of nodded saying you could do it.
Granted, Xander was standing over the ball. I could see why they called it that way, but at the same time, the ref that was there gave us the okay.
It could have been a really controversial --
SHANE LOWRY: If he made that call in his NBA days, I'm not sure the players would have been as nice.
WYNDHAM CLARK: Yeah. Let's say if it was the Finals we might have had a longer discussion.
SHANE LOWRY: If we had have tied the hole, I would have been --
WYNDHAM CLARK: I would have been pissed. Or even if we lost it. Oh, my gosh, we might have gotten thrown out for charging.
Q. What does winning a match with identical lineups say about how this team has evolved since season 1?
WYNDHAM CLARK: Without? Did you say with or without? With identical?
LUDVIG ÅBERG: Yeah, I think when we played the first one we played this season, none of us played very well, and obviously we didn't win that match. It was nice for us to actually get off to a nice start and get the points early and get some air under our wings and do that, and we did that quite well, obviously, with the lineup. I think the holes played out pretty well, so pleased with tonight.
Q. Ludvig, we've seen some video of you having a hole-in-one in the warmups today. Can you give us a few details on clubs and distance and whether you count that as an official hole-in-one?
LUDVIG ÅBERG: I think if it would have happened tonight, I might have wanted to count it, but I think practice round simulator golf, it's not quite reaching all the -- I'm not sure I will count it.
But I hit a gap wedge, I think the number was 120 meters, something like that. It landed just past the hole and came back.
Q. I'm sure you guys have seen the WTGL news, and I know Wyndham, you've played in the Grant Thornton. Michelle Wie West last night commented that there could be some coed matches in the future. What's your take on that, and would you be interested in having some of though matches?
WYNDHAM CLARK: Yeah, I don't see why not. The Grant Thornton was a blast. I got to play with Lexi. It's really fun seeing their game, how good they are in certain parts of their game that maybe they excel more than guys and vice versa.
Yeah, it's fun to compete with someone else that you're not used to competing with. At TGL I think that would be a blast. I think it would be good for the fans. So who knows. I know right now it's just girls versus girls, but yeah, that would be kind of fun. Maybe there's a Bay women's team and we do some coed stuff. I think that would be great.
Q. All you guys were in LA last week; how has that affected your schedule? Did you get in here and get some work before the match? How is your schedule moving forward? Nobody is playing Cognizant this week, correct?
SHANE LOWRY: I am.
Q. Moving forward, where does your schedule go from here?
WYNDHAM CLARK: To answer the first part, I slept in and missed our practice this morning. Not by accident, but I was just tired. To kind of show it, I didn't even get to play the Gunslinger hole where you have to hit the low hook. Clearly it didn't work out for me, so I should have played that.
As far as I'm hoping to play next week and then PLAYERS, so I need a week off. This was five weeks in a row for me, so I need to get home and lounge.
SHANE LOWRY: Yeah, I'm playing this week. I'm in the middle of five weeks in a row. Been pretty busy the last couple of days. I haven't had much time to rest. I've had a couple of corporate stuff I had to do.
Yeah, it's my job, so I don't really mind.
Q. So is it seven, you'll play the next two as well?
SHANE LOWRY: No, I'm in the middle, middle week of five weeks in a row. I started in Europe, in Dubai, played two weeks in Europe, so I'm kind of one or two tournaments behind most people when it comes to the PGA TOUR season. I'm just going to play a little bit. I get to stay at home this week. I get to drive my own car to Bay Hill. It's easy in the Florida Swing here, and I like playing Florida golf.
I like the course here, the Cognizant. I generally play okay there. Yeah, give it a run.
LUDVIG ÅBERG: Yeah, I played the last couple. I played two, week off, played two, and now I'll have a week off and I'll play the next two. Pretty nice stretch.
Q. Wyndham, just to talk about equipment, you've had, I think, six driver setups in the past six events, right?
SHANE LOWRY: You drove it great tonight.
Q. Were you rocking the Qi4D, and have you been in conversations with sponsors to be sponsored for your next driver?
WYNDHAM CLARK: Six driver setups? I think it's more like four. But I am a free agent, and that's one of the benefits of being a free agent but also maybe one of the curses of being a free agent, that sometimes you tinker.
But I've been hitting it really good this year. The only thing that's been bad has been the driver. I've kind of just been testing.
I hadn't played a TaylorMade since college, the M1 and M2, so it's been a long time. I was on the range last week. I kind of gave every club company a chance to fit me in a driver, and the TaylorMade one won, and I'm going to stay in that one for the rest of the year, so I'm not switching.
Q. Was your putter grip upside down tonight?
WYNDHAM CLARK: No, it wasn't. Was not. But I do need to figure out the putter. I've got 13 great clubs right now. I need to get that putter going, and then we'll be hopefully seeing me late on Sundays soon.
Q. Shane, your daughter had her birthday party here tonight. Can you talk about her love for TGL?
SHANE LOWRY: Yeah, we talked about it, Wendy and I, a few weeks ago. She loves it here, and her friends love it, as well. They come whenever I'm playing. Then we played Boston here one night, and Keegan had his son's birthday party here.
Thankfully everyone at TGL was accommodating, and we brought all her friends here. There's no chance she'll come out and watch me at the Cognizant this week, but she'll come to TGL because she gets to be on TV. She loves it. She's a big fan of TGL.
