Q. You're on to the quarterfinals. What are the initial thoughts?
SHEA LAGUE: Really happy. Very, very happy. I just tried to do all I could to grind out the last hole, and he gave me an opening, and I took it to the first hole, hit the fairway. I'm just really excited.
Q. Talk about 18; obviously drive right in the trees, your second shot nailed the tree, came straight down. How far in did you have on the third and what were you thinking?
SHEA LAGUE: So third shot I had 132, back left pin out of rough, ball wasn't going to spin so I was like, I just need to get this ball to land on the green. Kyle was like pitching wedge, 9-iron. I was like, gap wedge, because adrenaline was pumping. So I just hit it as hard as I could, had a little tree trouble, came off nicely straight, and it trickled out to five feet.
Q. And then on to the playoff hole, you lived to see another day, perfect drive right down the middle. Obviously you're flag hunting there.
SHEA LAGUE: Yeah. I mean, it was 78 yards. 80 is like my perfect number. I had to play it a little short because the greens are firming up, but I just felt very comfortable.
Q. What's it mean to be a quarterfinalist here at the U.S. Amateur?
SHEA LAGUE: Means a lot. It's my first U.S. Am. To make it this far is not surprising but unexpected. I didn't expect much coming in this week. But now that I'm here, I'm here to win.
