Q. This may be the round of the championship. Definitely may be the round of the day. You were 6-over through your first seven holes. Tell me what you were thinking as you walked to the eighth tee?
KEITH MITCHELL: I don't know how I'm going to finish. I was thinking about trying to break 80 and just trying to keep it in the fairway and on the green and maybe have a chance to make the cut, and it just all flipped when I hit a really good shot on 17, a good putt, and then the same thing on 18.
My caddie on No. 1 was like, hey, I think it's driver, it's a little downwind. It was the best swing of the day and just kind of got some momentum going.
Q. Was it challenging to keep that attitude even after you had a couple of good swings at the midway point?
KEITH MITCHELL: It's a lot less pressure when you're 6-over. You're just kind of rocking and rolling. After No. 10, I hit it over the green on 10 and over the green on 11. All week I've been told not to do that. It was like the sum of all fears standing back there looking at those two chips.
Just a terrible start, and hopefully we can tame those holes a little better tomorrow.
Q. You have experienced the highs and lows of this golf course today in changing conditions. How was it today?
KEITH MITCHELL: If you hit the fairway, you had a chance. I didn't do that very often on the back nine. If you hit the fairway, you have a chance to get on the green. The greens are so effectively small, like, if you hit the target, you're going to have a 15- to 20-footer. Fortunately, I just hit some really, really good shots on the back nine.
