Quick Quotes

Q. Max, first U.S. Open for you. How did it feel out there? How did it feel to get the round in? I know it was cutting it close. Can you just talk about that a little bit?

MAX McGREEVY: It was obviously exciting playing in the first round in a U.S. Open, any major type of thing. Yeah, kind of felt like any other day, it seemed like. Kind of had a couple extra hours this morning to gather my thoughts and be ready to go. I knew it was going to be a hard day. It's just a hard golf course in general.

You know you're going to make mistakes. I made one on the first hole, and it kind of just put me at ease, and I got rolling after that a little bit.

Q. You've probably talked about this in volumes already. Can you talk about that playoff back in Canada? Obviously 8-for-3, kind of a tester. Can you just speak on that a little bit?

MAX McGREEVY: Yeah, I had a couple of three-putts coming in to put myself in that playoff, unfortunately. Just kind of needed to get my mind reset a little bit when we started up. Luckily, a lot of guys didn't make birdies those first couple holes.

Yeah, finally just kept giving myself chances, and that's all you can ask for. Luckily that one fell in on the last hole and gave me a dream start to a dream tournament.

Q. Off the tee, right now you rank fourth in strokes gained off the tee. Can you talk about what part of your game off the tee was feeling good today?

MAX McGREEVY: Yeah, driver just felt like it was in a really good spot all day long. There might have been a couple of times where I maybe wanted to hit 3-wood or something like that, laid back, but driver was feeling good, so I kind of continued to hit it.

The fairways are big, but you've still got to hit good shots with it being windy like this to give yourself good opportunities. I think just starting from the fairway was, again, easing of the mind a little bit as the whole round went on. Yeah, very happy the driver cooperated because it made everything seem a lot easier, for sure.

Q. Can you just talk about your preparation leading into this event? A course like Shinnecock is pretty tough historically. Was anything different in your preparation? Was it generally the same?

MAX McGREEVY: I would say it's pretty similar. I've played a lot of golf this year, so this was a bonus week. Still tired a little bit. So I think, if anything, it was more on the mental side of things. It's my first U.S. Open. It's only my third major ever.

It was more so just getting my mind prepared and ready for this atmosphere. I knew it was going to be a big atmosphere. I knew the weather was obviously going to be a challenge today. We kind of knew that coming in on Monday type of thing. So I think it was more just mental preparation, getting ready to go, and yeah, it was good.
