Q. How do you feel today? You're one of the few players to hit under par today.
RETIEF GOOSEN: Yeah, I know. The course played tricky. I had three really bad lies in the rough that I could barely move 50 yards.
At least I know my lies can't get any worse. They can only get better. Happy with the round. Course played tricky, especially the front nine. It's a harder nine, I think, than the back.
Q. You talked about the rough a little bit. How was it like? Chopped out at 8; did well there. How does the rough compare to other U.S. Opens?
RETIEF GOOSEN: The rough here is like a normal U.S. Open. The three lies I had, there was no chance I'd even get near the green. Even on that No. 8 I was 90 yards from the front edge. I hit a sand wedge as hard as I could, and it probably carried 40.
So the rough is just like the U.S. Open used to play.
Q. And how do you feel about going into tomorrow?
RETIEF GOOSEN: Hopefully, you know -- you got to hit the fairways. Otherwise, you've got no shot. Hopefully the woods will play along.
