Quick Quotes

THE MODERATOR: Freddie, an eagle to finish. Talk us through that hole.

FREDDIE JACOBSON: Yeah, I hit the fairway, just hung on on the right side, so I was happy about that. Had a 7-wood left. Just got lucky with the back ridge, and it ran back towards the pin a little bit, made that putt. Not easy but a lot easier than if it stayed up there, so I was very happy about that.

Q. Your round sort of started on your back nine, a little bit more up and down, that stretch of holes. Talk us through that stretch.

FREDDIE JACOBSON: Yeah, I didn't play bad. I didn't really get anything going, either. It was eight pars and a bogey. I didn't drive it as well as I have the last three, four rounds and early in the week. Got a little tougher for me then with this wet rough. Some of the holes play long.

I wish I could have hit a few more fairways, given myself a few more chances. But other than that, I played good.

Q. What have you learned about the course thus far?

FREDDIE JACOBSON: You know, we rained out on Tuesday. Didn't really get to see anything out there until yesterday, and we had a good round, Max and I, yesterday.

We just tried to focus on the greens. Everybody kind of said how difficult it is on and around the greens, and it is. Tried to figure out the amount of break, and that is a little tricky, and the speed of the putts, too.

But I think we had a couple where we misjudged it and came up well short, but other than that, I was pretty happy for it being the second time around.

Q. How were the greens, and are they better now than they were this morning?

FREDDIE JACOBSON: We teed off really early, so obviously nobody had been on them. They were perfect when we teed off. It's not the condition of the greens, it's the slopes and seeing and feeling the slope and the pace. Just with the course being on a bit of a slope, the whole thing, it just magnifies it a little bit, and it's tough to pick up on sometimes.

But hopefully as the week goes, we get more and more comfortable there.

Q. This is your first Senior Open. Can you compare the U.S. Open versus the Senior Open if there's any similarities or differences?

FREDDIE JACOBSON: You know, I always liked the U.S. Open. I felt like it fit me pretty well for some reason. So very excited about this week. I feel the fairways are -- I didn't hit as many as I wanted today, but I feel it's fair. You strike it well, you've got a good chance to hit the fairways and give yourself some chances.

If I can play a little bit better off the tee box, I feel like the course can suit me really well.

Q. Is this just like the U.S. Open where fairways matter?

FREDDIE JACOBSON: Yeah, I mean, it does, because especially on that back nine, you've got some really long 4s that you want to be in the fairway. You're in the fairway, you've got a chance to hit it up there, but get no run in the rough and you've got a long way to go and you end up not reaching some of them. So it's definitely important.
