Quick Quotes

Q. Talk about your round today.

NOTAH BEGAY: I thought the golf course was accessible and gettable today. This is probably the easiest we'll see it, unless we get more rain. With the torrential rains, the monsoon the last two days, it really dropped a lot of water.

I played Tuesday morning, and the difference between where I could land shots on Tuesday, even with an 8-iron from the fairway, I was playing five to seven yards of release, and with an 8 or 9-iron, I could go right at the flag today.

There's still trouble out there. You get on the wrong side of some of these holes, the golf course has a wonderful set of challenges that, if you're out of position or playing from the rough, you're still going to make some bad scores.

Q. As far as living and playing at altitude, you mentioned that you've done that and how valuable that is on a course like this.

NOTAH BEGAY: It is. It's second nature for me. When temperatures change, the carry yardage based on the altitude slightly adjusts. Sometimes it's two, three yards, but it can make the difference between carrying a bunker or not carrying a bunker.

So the pockets of these greens where some of the holes are cut, guys are going to have to be real good with sort of picking the right club and choosing the right shot.
