Q. I know you might have had a lower number in mind, but talk about your round and what your thoughts were, the way you played.
SHANE BERTSCH: Yeah, I got off to a rough start, which is always tough when you know it's going to be tough conditions. The back nine is harder than the front and I started on the back and I started making some bogeys, and once you start making some bogeys, you're like, I've got to get off this bogey train.
It was just a tough day. Once you start getting behind -- you never want to think about the cut, but after six, seven holes I'm like, I've got to get this together just to make the cut. It's tough to play golf like that when you're trying not to make mistakes. Yesterday I didn't know what to expect and the course and I just played every shot without any fear and I had a lot of real good birdie looks. I wasn't really scared today, but it was a tougher situation, and once I made a few bogeys, and like I said, I made some birdies yesterday before bogeys, and it's always easier to relax.
Bogeys don't make you panic so much because you know you're going to make some bogeys. Birdies are pretty hard to come by.
Q. What's your thoughts on making the cut? I know it's important, but you've got to be proud of it.
SHANE BERTSCH: Yeah, I'm definitely proud of it. I had a lot of people out. I don't want to let all my friends down and stuff. You try not to think about that, but it is part of it.
More than anything, in a U.S. Open if you make a cut, you still are right there with a chance to do something because it's so severe. It can play so hard one day, and a 2-under, 3-under par round can really spring you up.
Q. What do you think about tomorrow, your strategy?
SHANE BERTSCH: I'm going to go for it tomorrow because today I was a little tentative, and like I said, I don't want to play like I'm trying to make the cut, but I got myself into that position so it was hard to be aggressive. I'm going to be aggressive to a certain extent from the get go tomorrow and see what I can do.
Q. Is it drying up?
SHANE BERTSCH: Starting to dry up as far as getting some bounces. I didn't have one single mud ball today to tell you the truth and I had a few yesterday. I didn't hit too many fairways today, though.
Anyway, no, it's going to dry up. I don't think they're supposed to have any more rain tomorrow. They said maybe Sunday. But we'll see.
