Quick Quotes

Q. We didn't get to talk to you officially after you made the cut yesterday. I know it was a nervous afternoon. How good does it feel to be playing on Saturday and Sunday?

BRANDT JOBE: It was nice. It took a while to find out. We didn't really see it until dinner time. I moved underneath that 60 barrier. So that was a positive. That means there's going to be more golf to play. It took a while to get those tee times last night, though. I was like gosh. So good stuff.

Q. How much better did it make the dinner taste once you found out you were on the cut line?

BRANDT JOBE: I'll be honest with you, I felt pretty good when I finished because I knew what was out there. It wasn't easy, and it doesn't get easier in the afternoon, it gets harder. I really felt actually, I really wasn't that worried until I started kind of looking at it going, well, this is taking a little longer than I thought.

Yeah, you want to play on the weekend. You want to have an opportunity.

Q. It seemed like you were carrying that momentum into today. You had at one point one of the best rounds. You had that late bogey. How did you feel about your round today?

BRANDT JOBE: I'll be honest with you, I just haven't been on my game. I haven't hit the ball very well. Kind of put myself in some tough spots. I had it going today.

Horrible finish. I mean, I finished bogey, bogey. I should have finished par, birdie. 4-under looks a lot better than 1, but that's golf.

Q. It seems like that's kind of the story of this U.S. Senior Open is guys feeling so good about so much of their game, but one or two things getting away from them. Is that the case for you today?

BRANDT JOBE: Yeah, I haven't been hitting it on all cylinders this year. I'm still fighting it a little bit out there. I get something good and hit some good shots, and all of a sudden a bad shot comes in. That's kind of been how the year's gone. I've been out for two years without playing. It's to be expected, but obviously when we're competing, we don't accept that very well.

Yeah, it's frustrating because there's some good shots in there, but there's some very poor ones today.

Q. We were talking to Shane Bertsch earlier, and he had said the same thing, these frustrations throughout the season. Then you're out here, yeah, it's nice to be competing, it's nice to be in a major, it's nice to be in your home state, but you still have the competitive fire that you want to be out there and play your best. How much is that fueling you during the week?

BRANDT JOBE: It's nice to be here, don't get me wrong, but the bottom line is you're playing in a tournament, and that's what you do for a living. You're going out there and competing, and it's frustrating. This tournament, I've played in a million U.S. Opens and Senior Opens and they're all frustrating. I think they enjoy it.

But that's a part of it. They take it right to the edge, and it is frustrating. It's how you deal with it, I guess. It's competing. It's just very, very difficult.

Q. What's it going to take for you to break through tomorrow?

BRANDT JOBE: I kind of thought I was right there. In my mind, I was trying to figure out how can I get it to under par for the week? That would be a goal. That would be a solid week for me. Obviously I kind of threw up on myself there coming in, but you know what, you start tomorrow and go out there and just see how low you can shoot.
