Ina Kim-Schaad

Quick Quotes

Q. You've had a few minutes to collect yourself. What is going through your head?

INA KIM-SCHAAD: I'm still overwhelmed with emotion, honestly. I truly love this place, and my husband and I got married in Carmel. To do it at such a special place, golf course, with my family here and my husband on the bag, his birthday day week, and for a second time, it's like there's not even enough language to put around just all the feels that I'm feeling.

Very, very positive.

Q. I'm not going to have you rank the two wins, but does this one feel different in any way?

INA KIM-SCHAAD: Yeah, I don't know if I've fully processed enough to say, but I wouldn't say my physical game was necessarily in as good a shape as it was in 2019.

That was a long time ago and I'm not getting any younger, but I felt really emotionally and mentally prepared today. So yeah, maybe different.

Q. Starting to talk about the match a little bit, it went long. At what point did you feel maybe tired, impatient, anything like that?

INA KIM-SCHAAD: Yeah, definitely moments. I kind of figured it was going to be a war of attrition. The pins where they were today, just you could not get on offense. It just felt physically impossible to be on offense.

So playing defensively, playing patiently and just letting the things happen and be a war of attrition was mentally where I had put myself, and I was ready to play 36 if it had to be.

Yeah, I'm really proud of how I moved on from the error that I made on No. 11. That was a really big error. I still held on to it obviously a little bit on 12, but after that I really was done, and I'm proud of myself for moving on quickly.

Q. Talk about the last putt; what did you see there, and the emotions when that went in?

INA KIM-SCHAAD: Oh, man. Downhill left-to-right ticklers are not my specialty, but I just wanted to give it a chance. I thought if I nestled it up there and two-putted, she was going to have a really difficult par anyway. My genuine intention was nestle it up there and give it a chance, and it just happened to drop.

Q. It feels so long ago already that you beat a friend in Kelsey, another champion in the first round. Just looking at the whole week, how proud are you of getting through all these steps?

INA KIM-SCHAAD: Super proud. You're absolutely right. Getting through two USGA champs and the No. 1 seed even to get into the finals, I was honestly just really patting myself on the back yesterday. So today is just obviously icing on the cake.

Q. What's next for you?

INA KIM-SCHAAD: I get to go to the Carey Cup, so straight to Dublin from San Francisco tomorrow. And one of the greatest honors is to be able to represent your country and your area, and to be able to represent New York in the Carey Cup matches next week is pretty special.
