Quick Quotes

Q. We are doing a separate story on Mariajo, she is retiring at the end of this tournament. I wanted to ask a couple of questions. Is she a big inspiration to you?

AZAHARA MUÑOZ: I mean, she's a bit younger than me. We went to college together. She came a bit after me. She didn't graduate, so we went on tour the same years. So I mean, yes, you know, we've started on tour in 2010. So we've been out there together for a long time. We are both moms. I feel like we shared a lot of things. Yeah, for sure.

Q. What can you tell about her strengths as a golfer?

AZAHARA MUÑOZ: I would say her character. Like she never gives up. She's quite the fighter. That's how I would define her. Like definitely a fighter.

Q. And are you going to miss her?

AZAHARA MUÑOZ: Absolutely. I feel like now, it's really sad because I'm at this stage where all my friends are retiring. Yeah, there's not many of us left from what I started, and she's one of them. So absolutely.

Q. Have you been talking at all the past couple of days to each other? Have you seen her yet?

AZAHARA MUÑOZ: Yeah, of course. We've been here for four or five days now. So I've seen her every day.

Q. What do you think the motions are going to be like on Saturday?

AZAHARA MUÑOZ: I think imagine. If it was me, I would be crying all the way around. I don't know, I think she's going to be very emotional because as much as she's ready to retire, it's still sad. Even me, I'm sad that these are going to be my last Olympics, and every time I do something that's the last time, I'm like, oohh. So I can imagine how emotional she's going to feel.
